I stopped drinking coffee about 3 months ago. I used to be one of these people who have a huge mug of coffee for breakfast and then pretty much drink coffee all day long, and had headaches that could only be cured with coffee.
It was horrible during the first 3 weeks, but now that i'm used to it, i feel great. I rarely have headaches now, and i'm able to sleep about 1-2 hours more than i used to. My stomach also feels great (i had 2 gastritis last year) and i was able to gain a couple of kilos, which in my case is great.

    Anyway, i recomend it

I need to stop drinking coffee (started basically a year ago) and f**king pepsi (max or diet depending on the continent I am on). Especially the Pepsi is probably going to kill me with the caffeine and the huge amounts of sweeteners of which they will probably discover in the next decade that they lead to intestinal cancer or brain failure. Maybe I will start tomorrow. But I say that to myself every day.

I try very hard not to drink coffee. I can stay awake for days without it, but sometimes it makes the staying awake easier. I try and use it only when I am in desperate need of a boost.

i have to go to a specialised store to get wormwood tea, but i love it.

the big problem for me is that the people that live with me drink lots of coffee, and it's very difficult to resist the smell of freshly made coffee... but i'm being strong

    Is it really addictive?

I have no problems staying away from coffee, but then again my mornings are slow.

I walk by Tim Hortons twice a day, usually. SOOOO tempting, but deep in my heart, I know the double double is basically poison.

I drank around 3 pots of coffee a day from '92 to 2000. Then I just got sick of it and quit somehow. Headaches and irritability were horrible for a while. I went a long time just drinking water, then I got hooked on cola, which is even worse. I've been drinking at least a six pack a day for over 2 years now, and my blood sugar levels are up. Probably gonna get type II diabetes if I don't quit this soon. I've tried switching to tea (red rasberry is decent), but haven't had too much success. I'm like you Spuriousmonkey; I keep saying I will.

i used to say it was good for me because i'd wake up with these terrible headaches and coffee would make them go away... when in fact it was the lack of coffee what was causing them :bugeye:

I stopped drinking coffee around 8 years ago, like cotton I just got sick of it, didn't like the taste anymore. Also like cotton and spuriousmonkey I've since been drinking a lot of pepsi and I refuse to drink the crap with artificial sweetners, I think a better idea would be to just reduce the sugar content rather than replacing it...

I did the exact same thing, Varda. But only on days I worked. I used to get up, flick the kettle on, drink and go to work. Used to keep me spry all day long.

Then one weekend we ran out and all we had was camomile. And I like camomile. So I had some and still felt good all day.

Now I don't drink anything with caffiene although I did have an addiction when I was young :bugeye:

Camomile is great for those wishing to quit.

    Dear sciforumers,

I started the day with water instead of half a liter of pepsi. I wonder if I can survive.

Poor, poor spurious. He was such a good monkey.

I'll try the camomile next time I go to get cokes.
