REBloomfield writes "The BBC is reporting that the British Government is working with Microsoft in order to gain backdoor access to hard drives encrypted by the forthcoming Windows Vista file system. Professor Anderson, professor of security engineering at Cambridge University, urged the Government to contact Microsoft over fears that evidence could be lost by suspects claiming to have forgotten their encryption key." "Windows Vista is due to be rolled out later this year. Cambridge academic Ross Anderson told MPs it would mean more computer files being encrypted. He urged the government to look at establishing "back door" ways of getting around encryptions. " http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4713018.stm
Ah yes, DRM, the main reason I won't be upgrading to Windows Vista. - N Edit: Just noticed I had "DMA" instead of "DRM".

It's not about finding stuff, it's the ability of them being able to delete things off your computer. DRM is some lame ass crap. Certain files won't open without a certain program (worse than it is now) and if you're the type to share one program between two systems you own, it can be deleted off your comp such as all your Microsoft Word files and whatnot. And I won't doubt it happening with simple things such as ripping a CD you own to your hard drive to put it on your portable mp3 player. That's now seen as illegal so now you're supposed to buy everything twice for various platforms. There's a ton of other funky garbage in regards to DRM. Google it sometime. Keep your old computers and your old operating systems around just in case. - N
Imagine this: say you work at home writing or something like that, you leave to deliver it and before you get to the door to get paid someone punches you in the chops and takes it. this happens to you everyday, what do you do? stop writing or keep going? hey im only copying my CD......suuuuure Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
