So basically, whats better wisdom or intelligence? I think wisdom is better then intelligence, but not by much
Wisdom. You can have as much intelligence as you want, but still fail at life, but wisdom will get you through.
A wise person, almost by definition, knows how to compensate for his weaknesses. He knows his own limitations, he knows how to find information he doesn't have, he knows trustworthy people who can figure out stuff that's beyond him. Extremely intelligent people often create their own handicaps by believing that they are just as smart in all areas as they are in their own fields of expertise. They also have a habit of not trusting people who are not as smart as they are. Not all of them to be sure, but this is a such a common problem that it's become a stereotype. Intelligent people often look down on the less intelligent and don't notice that they may have superior social skills. Intelligent people often fail to develop their own social skills because it's so much fun for them to devote their energy to the pursuit of academic knowledge.
i see semantics to be intelligent is to be wise and vice versa if i were forced to make a distinction, it would be that wisdom would include one or more of the following attributes in its definition a moral, ethical and emotional component aka a judgmental component a temporal component however even that seems to be bogus as nothing in the definition of "intelligent" would neccessarily preclude the above from being present
I like the saying, "A man who never speaks of his intelligence is a very wise man, for he isn't intelligent" More or less a rough translation of the hebrew langauge, excuse me if it is off. My hebrew is very rusty.

Good-looking You can get alot more done that way in America. Although being popular has strong advantages Being smart does also help you make changes to better the world
Whether to be wise or intelligent is totally irrelevant. What matters is who says you are intelligent or wise. And in that case the answer to the question, what is better, wisdom or intelligence, is completely dependent on the mental capacities and social experience of this external or internal reviewer of wisdom or intelligence. I assume you lost the train of thought halfway through that awful sentence.

I will give an example (a post whore will do anything to score): ----------------------- Data set: Spuriousmonkey says that you are much wiser than 'Baron Max' Spuriousmonkey says that 'Baron Max is much more intelligent than 'Bowser'. --------------- Question: Is 'Bowser' wiser than the 'Baron'? Is 'Bowser' less intelligent that the 'Baron'? --------------- The answer to both question is: 'no' and simultaneously 'yes'. That is because we have only looked at a limited data set. Yes, I didn't quite specificy that it was a limited dataset but I wondered if someone might notice. --------------- Dataset2: 'Baron max' says that he is both wiser and more intelligent (or intelligenter) than both 'bowser' and 'spuriousmonkey'. --------------- Now we are in trouble. We have conflicting data sets. If indeed the 'baron' is both wiser and intelligent'er than both bowser and spuriousmonkey than it doesn't matter which one is more important. He excells in both. However the first data set indicates that 'Bowser' is wiser than 'Baron max'. In this case it would matter to determine which one is better. Therefore in conclusion Spuriousmonkey is the only person who can decided here which one is better 'wisdom' or 'intelligence'. After all 'baron max' stated he was both wisest and more intelligent. Wisdom is like a diamond that can cut through anything. Intelligence is simply latent wisdom which gets you through day to day life.
if one is truley wise he will not claim to know the answer, if one is truley intelligent he will realise he to does not hold the answer after trying his whole life to find it, peace.
Stupid question but Doesn't wisdom entail intelligence? I don't find the two to be mutually exclusive IMO. If you're wise then obviously you're intelligent enough to percieve the world in a healthier way...no? I find that the participants in this thread have attached a staunch definition to the term "Intelligence" and then procedded to contrast that term to their definition of what is wise. Are we discussing book smarts Vs wisdom or intelligence VS wisdom? I, for one, wouldn't consider someone intelligent if they didn't show any capabilities of emotional intelligence or natural intution. no?
