He said the only way to save human beings is being a scientist, and other jobs is meaningless and worthless.

I don't know what he said.

But I agree that being a scientist is a noble job.

Music is far nobler. Period. Whether playing, teaching, or composing.

    Period.

    Unless it's really crappy music.

I think a lot of other jobs, whilst not being meaningless, are a lot more trivial.

Seems to me that if you live your life, without really helping others or contributing to society (for example, if you work in the finance/commerce/advertising industries), you aren't exactly going to save the human race, to say the least.

Well, think about it ....could the scientist actually do much if he didn't have such services as clean running hot and cold water, sanitary sewers, clean facilities, electricity (which requires coal or oil to be mined or drilled)?

Could the scientist get any work done if there were no roads and highways for him to drive to work?

Could the scientist save humanity if the grocery stores ran out of food, because all the workers who deliver the food stopped working? Or the farmers stopped growing the produce and raising the cattle?

See? The human ego is so overwhelmingly stupid that it can't even consider the countless others who make his life even possible. And worse, the human ego has the ability to actually denigrate those others who keep his life running normal and secure.

Strange, very strange, are humans. And it's just such bullshit as this that makes me wonder why in hell anyone would actually want to keep humans on Earth!

90% of scientists are worthless, 90% of science is worthless and/or meaningless if not fradulent. There is nothing noble about being a (modern) scientist. It's all about $, sucking the right asses, selling "used cars", hyping things up (light fraud doesn't hurt either), having no life, playing politics and exploiting underling as though you run a Chinease sweatshop. Good stuff coming of such a system is rather an exception than a rule.

I doubt technology will save humanity anyway. It seems it brings the same amount of problems (if not more) as it solves (partially, at least). Humans, in their present condition, having 10 times more understanding of universe. Aren't you scared yet? Definitely (and luckily), it will never happen, but still, the thought makes me shiver.

Yep, i'm in it for the paycheck and job security. Because bloody hell, every time I get my paycheck I jump in the air of joy! And although I only have a 1 year contract at the moment I know the job is for life of course. Not that they can ever raise my paycheck, because it has gone already through the roof.

Man, I am so rich making money of science that I could retire any moment just like Baron and be a parasite of society.

If ye're rich, and you retire, then how are you a parasite of society? It's your own money that you'll be living on, not society's money.

Oh, wait, that's only if you live in the USA ...if you live in some place like Finland, a socialist nation, then, yes, you would be a parasite, cause that nation gives anyone money if they want it ...just for the asking!

One can't eat money. Thus, everyone living on money and producing nothing is a leech on those who do something for the money he has. One thing, if one save those money by doing something useful at his time. Then, society, as collective, pays him back by honoring his paper clips. On the other side, there are many ways (for the right people

) to make $ and do no or little of useful stuff, but they certainly demand real goods and services for their paper clips.

You are a parasite according to your own definition. You are not working. Not contributing to society.

It's not my fault that you have weird ideas in your head about society.

Have many people have you shafted for that money you claim is yours.

The man's a fool if he thinks everything else is meaningless. It's important, yes. There's no denying that. But almost every job in society today has a function that helps humanity progress which in turn benefits people. What of the engineers who operate and maintain the things scientists develop? Or the doctors, nurses and medics who utilise their findings?

They are merely a cog in the clock that is life. Without the rest, they are meaningless.

Save them from what? It would seem that scientists have made many problems from toxic waste to environmental contaminations that they first developed in their laboratories. So they are the perpetuators of this environmental catastrophy we have so why are they so great?

Hey, what about those folks crafting insulting for intelligence ads and placing them on right wing talk radio? After all, those folks separate fools with their money (or plastic), spending money keeps economy moving, big chunks of the resulting wealth fall into scientists hands to investigate something interesting or not so interesting, or not interesting at all, publish lots of papers (most likely nobody will read), to get paper one needs to cut trees, make paint, and so on. Economy is moving, everybody is happy or pretends to be. And why? All because of those commandos of capitalism peddling home business schemes (for example) on M. Savage shows. True American heros.

Actually that is true! I really hadn't thought about it that way, but a member of society who does not contribute anything (or much) is, in fact, a leech, a parasite. Even if one saved his money over his lifetime of work, and then used that money in his retirement, without sucking on the tit of society, he's still not a contributing member to that society. He's a leech, a parasite!

None, actually, but I don't expect you to believe me, so....?

Living the easy life on money you sucked from society is hardly contributing to it.

Huh? Spurious, that statement is a sure sign that you didn't read my post before you leaped to conclusions!! ...LOL! Read it again, I was actually agreeing with your earlier post ....and admitting that I'm a leech or parasite on society. How much more agreement would you like ....a signed confession complete with a notary seal and witness signatures???
