People have always formed groups. As those groups grew larger, certain people became free to specialise in things other than food production. And so civilisations grew.

There's a trend towards technological advancement. Social advancement seems to be more of a series of steps backwards and forwards.

Evolution... we were nomads and became sedentary. Began with agriculture, reproduced until the world is so crowded that almost 90% (if not more) of the virgin forests are destroyed and we are almost destroying ourselves...
That's evolution...
