Oh no! A few people got scrapes and bruises! *gasp* One girl lost a flip-flop!! I see now that we Americans must change our economic system so we don't have another tragedy!

This laptop incident is a rare occurence. If you (or other countries) hate America because a few people wanted cheap laptops, then you have some serious problems. How can you be so intolerant toward a country and economic system that has nothing to do with you? I swear, you liberals are always the same - preaching tolerance, and then bashing an idea that you hate. It's hypocrisy.

Capitalism is the most successful economic system there is. It has been shown through history. Have you ever taken an economics class? Is it any coincidence that the US has the highest standard of living in the world? Or that Russia had so many problems through the 1900s? It's all economics.

Here's something I find odd about this. Why do people hate America for a laptop frenzy, yet they feel sympathy toward people who smash airplanes into buildings? It's a general trend I've noticed.

They probably wouldn't comment because they knew it wouldn't make a good news story to say that only 2 people were bruised.

Care to explain how a school system selling off it's old, used laptops and a few crazy people in a crowd even closely realtes to 'capitalism?' It makes no sense to me.

I suppose you also view mob action at a soccer game in Europe or the UK as another example of capitalism gone bad?????

This isn't really so much of a reflection of capitalism as it is of mankind. I suppose you must actually be nausiated by the species itself.

Similar nuttiness can be found anywhere enough people are in one place. Sports stadium riots, as Light points out, are a good example of this. Then you have events like when thousands of muslims gather to stone an iron pillar, hitting themselves far more often than the pillar. Then you have the old Soviet supply line riots that cropped up now and then where you would clobber your best friend for a roll of toilet paper. If you put enough humans in a very cramped situaltion, you may have a stampede that can kill people for no reason other than people panicing and wanting to get away.

Crazy capitalism sure beats sane communism and fascism. A country is too big for me to hate because I know not everybody is the same, but If i am to hate a country it would be the thieves known as the British. These guys raped the whole world, stashed the loot in musuems and treasuries and are now hiding under America's cover by following every single foreign policy America dictates. However Hate is a very strong term and I don't hate them as much. A lot of people should be thanking America or we would all be speaking English today. Such is life

I think TruthSeeker is just a bit quick to bash capitalism, even when he has no logic or facts to support his opinion.

Maybe, just maybe, I was observing the attitude of the young man hitting people with a chair....

Yes, indeed. If it would always happen, people wouldn't be so crazy to get them. The point is that the incident brings to surface some serious problems with capitalism.

This is a riduculous statement. Of course people don't hate america because of that. People hate america because of this american attitude that favours possession over the well-being of the entire population. It's the selfishness and greed that people hate.

So what? Should I encourage intolerance? Because if I'm not against your intolerance, that obviously make me intolerant!

And it's not as much about hating it as it is to simply be against it.

It failed. Ever heard of the great depression? Still, you insist. Now, the environment is suffering because of too much production, our health is suffering because we work too much, despite the fact that we have enough to suppy to all our needs. World debt is increasing. It's a HUGE mess. The US is getting more and more into debt and the world is tired of this bully. Once we stop paying your bills, you will crash and you will take the entire planet with you. We all had enough of your hypocrisy!

    Of course.

Well, by making the entire planet your slaves... then no! I see no coincidence!

You can twist economics to look the way you want it to look. Just take a look at this thread:
    http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=47886

Oh really? I've never noticed any "sympathy" towards people who smash airplanes into buildings. Where did you find such "sympathy"? Mayvbe you are talking about George Bush, who shipped Osama Bin Laden's family back home?

Oh really? How do you draw such assumption?

I'm talking about the people's attitude towards a bunch of used crap. I'm talking about how they didn't give a fuck about other people, about how other people felt or their security or anythin at all. I'm talking about how people favored a piece of metal over others.

Where the fuck do you find any correlation there? :bugeye:

Well, not quite. We are not so bad. The way we deal with each other is bad.
What I clearly observe is that people just want to fulfill their needs. And that's fine I mean... you can't possibly survive if you don't fulfill your needs. But to kill someone else for no reason or for some stupid reason or whatever, that's another story....

I was pointing out people's reactions towards something as banal as a whole bunch of used laptops. It's not like I wouldn't want one myself. But I would definetely not hit people with a chair to get it, or drive people over with my car! :bugeye:

Maybe most of us have a very low IQ, who knows....?

Oh really? So the negative psychological influence that capitalism have over people is completely irrelevant?

So after the attitude of 1 crazy man, you bash the whole concept of capitalism?

It's abundant in the liberal media we have here.

    Basic reasoning skills.

No, the attitude of the whole crowd. Which is in fact just a reflection of the entire population, the attitude that is within people, the extreme consumist attitude.

Sounds like it is your own sympathy......

Which you obviously lack, if you are going to make such a gross assumption.... :bugeye:

Wow! One small "crowd" of a few hundred people is reflective of the entire population of the USA? Wow!

You'd make a great pollster!!! You can take a few hundred people and devine the desires and needs of billions. WOW!

Yeah, you'd do great as a pollster! Next time I do a survey, I'm taking it to a laptop sale, because then I know I am getting the absolute best and unbiased sampling possible.

And besides, not everyone in the crowd was hitting with chairs. MOST of the people didn't do ANYTHING violent. So really, you're making an assumption of the crowd behavior based on 1 man, and then using that to represent the entire USA. Wow! Not everyone can use the actions of a SINGLE PERSON to show the attitude of a whole Nation. Bravo!

Again, I say you are just quick to bash capitalism.

We have yet to fully recognize the long-term effects of capitalism upon humans. Rampant capitalism is destroying us, imo, and it will only get worse, imo. More and more mental problems associated with being used your whole life. I just wonder what we will come up with next. More socialism? More revolution and war? Humans suck, and that is all there is to it. We have sucked for thousands of years, and we will suck for many more.
