Thanks for the links, Stryder. I was actually looking for some good and free anti-virus protection. Norton worked for a few months, and then tried to charge me - despite the fact that it didn't kill the one virus I did manage to get.

As far as i am concerned,i have NEVER EVER REMOVED A VIRUS WITH THE HELP OF ANTI VIRUS SOFTWARE...NEVER EVER...SO currently i am not using them.thanks for INFO anyways...

Haven't done that before... Great now I sound like a Lamer Nerd getting kicks out of changing the title.

I did have a reason for the Slash, [previous Title: Worm/Virii, Trojan watch] since most worms propagate in a Viral sense although they are named like a "worm" due to it's "tunneling".

Still the titles altered for you Zion, just for good P.C.

LOVEGATE virus

LOVEGATE has supposedly broken out 24/02/2003, and is presently infecting systems across the globe.

It is partially Virus and Trojan.

It propagates by looking like Autoresponses or actual mails (with attachments)

It has the ability of allowing people to remotely access your 'puter.

I had blaargh.exe, i think i got it off kazaa in a keygen.
I got alerted to the fact that i may have a virus because of a string of pop-ups on startup.

It was a worm, now it is a dead worm.

 

Note: The correct term is virus, or viruses. "Virii" is not even a word.

While antivirus scanners detect some trojans, they don't detect all of them. If you want protection for trojans, you should get a trojan scanner. The best trojan scanner IMHO is TDS-3:

I always remembered it as "Virii" because of Octopii, as there was no Octopuses.

Well I suppose there is now, thats the problem with the English language, people get lazy and the language changes.

If people are not going to use the word viruses, they should learn how to spell it right to begin with, it's viri. The i would replace the us.

i just got mail that had a vires in it. i have norton vires or somthing like that.

 

So how well does the Windows XP firewall work, really? It seems to have a built-in firewall, though I haven't seen spectacular success from it (neither have I seen spectacular failure)...it's just there, and I have no way of determining how good it is.

Anyone?

) You can't configure it. I think it was the reason I was having a hassle transferring files over AIM and MSN messenger. And since there are enough free firewalls out there -- Zone Alarm is good -- there's no reason for not getting one and turning the d*mn thing off.

 

All you have to do to remove a virus is turn off "System Restore." After that, restart the comp in safe mode, run an anti-virus check on your hardrive. When thats over restart the computer as it was before, turn back 'Sytem Restore." and then boom, virus free.

This is in concern with your reply.Being a C programmer and i would not be boasting if i said a good one,esecially with pointers,i would find anti-virus softwares as junk as they are.Most of the Viruses(in fact all of them) are TSRs in some way or the others.TSRs requires a counteracting programs to either fix them or they require a complete delete.At the same time it is not much of a difficulty for a common user ( a slight experience might come in handy ) to actually find the virus file and delete it and remove the registory entries it has added.Like in the case of MSBLAST VIRUS,i simply deleted the msblast file and its relevant entries in startup folder by doing regedit.

i"ll be giving in some time a C code that you can compile and run in your own computers to find out any malacious worm or virus activity and explain the whole concept behind it in couple of days.

(And Yeah,i dont ever enter safe mode,because i am always safe with my C compiler and WinXP in normal mode
