Technology section change edit : the poll in now for electricfetus is idea below We could take the two "Technology" sub-forums: "Computer Science & Culture" and "Intelligence & Machines" into three sub-forums: Computer Science AI, robotics, computational neuroscience, brain emulation, cognition systems, advanced theoretical computer systems Computer Technology new computer developments, Computer problems assistance Computer Culture Video games, L33t 5h1t!, Software discussion With a big thanks to electricfetus!!
I think gaming fits under Computer Science & Culture sub-forum. We could take the two "Technology" sub-forums: "Computer Science & Culture" and "Intelligence & Machines" into three sub-forums: Computer Science AI, robotics, computational neuroscience, brain emulation, cognition systems, advanced theoretical computer systems Computer Technology new computer developments, Computer problems assistance Computer Culture Video games, L33t 5h1t!, Software discussion Then we would have to change the catagory title from "Technology" to "Computers"
sounds like a good idea but if its too much work for porfiry or uses extra bandwidth i am happy to continue as it is
whats the need for yet another subforum, "Computer Science & Culture" and "Intelligence & Machines" has only a combined post count of just under 3000 meaning activity is mininal and sofar imo Computer Science & Culture has worked just fine for game chatter
true, then again what use is there in keeping several other sub-forums with posts counts below 200? Why not just merge them back with the bigger ones, or with each other?
Why do something just because other do it, or its done before? The other subforums have a much bigger difference to each other then the current suggested spilt would have. Whats the problem with talking games in the current forum? why create another miniature forum? What would the advanged be, that we dont have now?
The "three sub-forums" seems to be a great idea if it's not a "just games" sub-forum : it would be full of teens talking about the best way to kill the boss of the 3rd level of "Xops" or "Ycraft".
i would post more if it was that way electricfetus says, because the one we have now Computer Science & Culture is open to too many things/topics. If we break it up it will be better.
Does a 2nd error correct the first?, is something thats good in the west also good in then east? Again why split somethings thats allready working fine? there has been many succersfull game threads in the current forum without them getting lost or closed, dont you think?, hell just right now there is a HF2 thread. But why dont you just start the game threads you like, see if you indeed will overwelming the subforums and there by deserve a seperat subforum?, i think not. oh yea before i forget, read those 2 subforums you mentinent, see any differences?, its not that hard.
1. Whats the problem with discussing eastern philosophy in general philosophy? 2. Obviously with eastern philosophy being such a small sub-forum and there is not much demand for it, why was it created? 3. More diversity in subject titles that may stimulated new and more interesting threads, better organization of threads.
Did you look at the two forums in question?, easter philosophy is more about meditation and a way of living/religion(eastern). very different from the wester philoposy, but its does not realy matter we talking about Computer Science & Culture here. As it is IMO there is no need to create a forum for games, there is not enougth activity to make it work and Computer Science & Culture is handling it just fine, maybe if there came a need. Or it will end with a depopulated game forum, that will slowly die because of the lack of intrest and the need to view more subforums. Keeping game chat in Computer Science & Culture will insure a larger audience(sp?).
General Philosophy covers Easter Philosophy, If it doesn’t then it should not be called “General”. There is very little demand for Easter Philosophy, yet the subforum exist for it. I'm just providing a proper analog to the splitting of Computer Science & Culture which is equal to the splitting of General Philosophy which was undertaken. Eastern Philosophy is a underpopulated subforum, keeping Eastern Philosophy in with General Philosophy could have insured a larger audience.
How about you show there is a need for a seperate game forums, as of right now there is only 5 threads on the first 5 pages thats about games. If you could create the need for such a subforum im sure there will be more that are willings to spilt the currect forum up. Does 2 errors make a right?
