A few days ago I had heard the last 10 seconds of a news report on Public Radio. The report was about some physicist who won some prize (possibly), or at least made some amazing breakthroughs. Now a bunch of physicists want to come over to his field because of these discoveries. Anyone have any idea what this news report was about? It was just reported in the last few days.

    Thanks,
    Baaron

    Proabyly..

In all likely hood the worlds most infallable theory came to a crashing halt because of some precarious slant of light which cannot be attributed to any other option except that existence itself as we know it is completely different than anything we ever imagined. Than in three weeks everything will be the same agian.

    Or...

it could have been the Nobel Prize in Physics, that was awarded this year to the studying of a state of matter called the "Bose-Einstein condensate" (which is basically a state where all atoms in a gas are cooled down to their lowest energy level possible).

The most amazing latest breakthrough I have heard about with BECs is their ability to form holograms of any type of matter within the BEC. In other words star trek type matter simulators.

Another one was the observation of a bosenova in a BEC, this is like a quasi-supernova.
