You do know..clock speed is somewhat meaningless these days...

6GHz without a huge RAM would be a waste, don't you agree?

Well, if your hobbies consist of producing useless things, then yes

An even cooler hobby is to supe up some old computers Maybe create a cluster, or your own Tivo. You'd get great return on investment compared to a 6ghz chip.

you do know that 400GHz have been reached before? it was in a SA mag. like a year or two ago. Of course it did require liquid helium cooling.

heh cool, can you find the article?

yeah, the only thing it was good for was to take a screenshot of the speed it was at and they used liquid nitrogen so it's hardly a viable gaming machine is it

, however, it was usable at 5Ghz for a little bit, if you head over to bit-tech.net and search the article is there

man, think what they could get if they did it again with a p4 3.2EE

I don't think it was a p4, they were experimenting on chip designs for a "Ultra" supercomputer. I can't find the article mainly because you have to pay to read the things and I don't have a clue what the title was.

I don’t thin the future is in higher and higher clock frequencies. It is more likely in multiple cores, asynchronies processing, spintronics, later on quantum spintronics.

no , i meant about the 400Ghz chip, but then again a 397ghz or a 396.8ghz overclock wouldnt realy make much of a diffrence..
