Please suggest on how to get rid of moderators without getting rid of moderation.

Give actual links with explainations if you know of any.

Do you think SF owners will use this thread to make any changes ? or will they just ignore us ?

Please read the following for hints.

we should have immediate mods to put thraeds in the right place or remove abusive ones but have a poll on anything we want changed back or modified. it would be too much work to poll every decision made but we should be able to have a say if we want to

I think you forgot a choice in the poll: "Porfiry should pick moderators he likes/trusts and the mod/admin team should decide the rules and enforce them. Anyone that doesn't like them can leave."

This form of moderation works on other boards and is very effective. The moderation at Sciforums is too lazie-faire. Members voting to ban other members is crap and always turns into a popularity contest. Members voting for mods is the same. If you want democracy register to vote in real politics. A discussion forum should be a dictatorship, albeit one with standards.

    RTT,

For whatever reason I was not given a choice to vote above. However, I want to link you my thought [thread=42456]Here[/thread] which I think would cut down considerbly on the moderators task.

People would conduct themselves civily or be blocked from posting at all. If they want their view heard they would need to be professional and considerate.

Oh, you must mean like your earlier statement today
(Which was actually wrong, as there was a requirement for compressability.)

MacM wants his own personal platform from which to lie, where he can ban all those who disagree and point out mistakes. SciForums shouldn't be it.

The Thread Rating is already there, if that was added to each post either everyone could "Rate Posts" or the ability to do so could be random like slashdot.org.

Now THAT is a good idea. I think they use some kind of karma system where people considered 'good posters' get more of a chance to moderate. The modded down posts are still there, just hidden.

The not so little problem however is that it would probably take more coding than Porfiry has time for.

There should be an option to block a post for future readers as offensive. But the future readers should be able to vote for unblocking it. Here the majority always wins.
