Please don't use this thread to debate about Abortion.

I'm just wondering how many people in here think that it is morally wrong.

It's an anon poll... so feel free to stand up and be counted :)

I cant vote since i think people have a right to choose, but its not just the womans right, it takes two to make a baby and it shouldnt be up to one person alone if it has a chance to live or not, since they both have to live with that decision.

jadedflower
06-12-04, 12:54 PM
just vote for right; imagine it's a single mother or something.

Logically Unsound
06-12-04, 01:02 PM
i say right, but that doesnt mean i think that they dont have a choice, and that the father doesnt have a say in it as well.
both should have a part in the discussion, but im not having a discusion about it because of the long thread about it already in action....

I think the woman has the right to choose and religious/moral people shouldn't impose their beliefs on others.

spuriousmonkey

The poll is biased.

It can be a moral issue and still be viewed as right.

Dr Lou Natic
06-14-04, 08:15 AM
Yeah i was going to say its biased, the options should have been;
* for
* against
* don't care

Not that I really want to discuss the issue but the whole "woman has a right to choose" argument has always confused me. I don't think thats the issue at all. I am definately for abortions but not because women want them. I'd prefer if they were used as a punishment for women who wanted a child but were forbidden to have one by the dr lou natic regime.

Dreamwalker
06-14-04, 08:19 AM
Go ahead, I donīt care :D

After all, I am not a woman. So go and punish the dumb bitches.
All hail Dr Lou Natic.

I believe the woman has a right to chose; I say RIGHT

Just because one believes that the woman has the right to choose does not mean one believes abortion is right. I support the right of choice, but I'm morally ambivalent on the actual activity.

CounslerCoffee

I support the right of choice, but I'm morally ambiguous on the actual activity.

I agree with this statement. I believe abortion to be wrong, morally and ethically. I think it's the woman’s right to choose if she’s going to hell or not.

jadedflower
06-14-04, 12:18 PM
>Just because one believes that the woman has the right to choose does not mean
>one believes abortion is right.

Hmm... I don't understand. How can you believe the woman has a right to chose, and then if she choses to abort you condemn her?

I'm not entierly against abortion, what disgusts me is the people who do it twice, three times, four... the woman on TV a few nights ago who'd have 11 abortions........!!!!!

Lemming3k
06-14-04, 02:15 PM
Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times or more and shes just plain stupid.

Isnīt it cheaper to use contraceptives?

spidergoat
06-14-04, 02:45 PM
That is an interesting thought lemming3k, perhaps one abortion is acceptable, but two or three should result in escalating fines, to be used by the gov. for educational puposes, after all, it should be a last resort.

Lemming3k
06-14-04, 02:58 PM
it should be a last resort.
Indeed, the choice should be there but it shouldnt be used as a primary method to stop being stuck with a kid, the problem is accidents can happen more than once, even when protection is used, perhaps if the women is on the pill then more than once might be accepted as another accident.
Isnīt it cheaper to use contraceptives?
Hugely cheaper.

I too agree with this statement.

This may sound a bit twisted, but I think that the actual question when it comes to abortion is this: Should a woman, when she gets pregnant, first think of abortion or not?

Have people honestly answer this question -- and it may shed some light on the issue.

greywolf
06-14-04, 03:41 PM
i dont think the thought is as bad or as "contraversial" as the action. I'm pretty sure tons of people think of it but not everyone does it.

StarOfEight
06-14-04, 07:45 PM
Isnīt it cheaper to use contraceptives?

Yep, but the same people who want Roe vs. Wade overturned tend to be the same people opposed to the use of any other form of contraceptive.

Who cares about a few fetuses when every year thousands of people die in car accidents (well, it is actually more than a few thousand but I forgot the exact number. It is a lot though).

Why isn't it immoral to drive a car. Don't tell me that cars don't kill. Statistics say they do. Hence no car related death can really be an 'accident'. You choose to enter the car knowing that cars kill thousands of people each year.

And these people are actually people. There is no controversy on their nature as people as there might be with a fetus.

To put things in perspective. Cars are not against religious doctrine although they are great killers and hence they are not morally wrong.

Once talking about abortion, one ought to consider that sex is originally there to make babies. If you decide to have sex, accept that you can get pregnant.

If you want sex, but not have a baby, accept that you maybe will have to have an abortion.

This talk about whether the feuts is a person or not is total BS, trying to find some sort of justification for abortion.

While the real justification for abortion is this:

"I want to have sex, but I don't want to have a baby. I use birth control, but if I will get pregnant, I will have an abortion."

Now how many of those who whine about whether the fetus is a person or not are actually having the guts to say that?!

cold hearted? Mmh, I would rather say it is a matter of perspective.
For me, a human is not worth more than a fish or a chicken. All are
animals. I donīt see a difference between killing a fetus or cooking the
eggs of fish or chicken for food.
Itīs not really cold-hearted, I am indifferent.

I think this about sums it up, you shouldnt bring a child into the world you dont want, and there are plenty of children already out there waiting to be adopted or living on the streets so wheres the justification in adding to that number of people?
But we are all digressing the 1st post of this topic did say this was a poll not a debate on the subject.

I think Spurious' comment about the cars was interesting; but the usual argument is that if you die, it was an act of God. If you kill, you go against God.

i believe in god *sings harmoniously*
the answer id that the person who is driving the car does not kill, since the devil takes over the car, killing the person.
therefore the death was an 'act of god' (actually an act of the devil) and the person driving was not at fault.

ok you got me.. i am actually a 30 year old preist who lives in a small villiage in england. i spend all day collecting stamps and preparing the next sermon, except at night when i come here to be heavily sarcastic, make stupid points and secretly insult people who are to stupid to understand whats really going on, what is really, what is really going wrong.
yes it is the right word, as is this:
I DONT BELIEVE IN GOD.
most people shout it, so it might feel more right if i did it too.

Kunax
06-17-04, 12:26 PM
I think you at least have to say it in bolded caps, you know, just to make sure. And while you do that I will go back to the images in my mind, that has nothing to do with scifourms or its members.

Thanks for the correction.
