Three wishes

If anything could come true -- which three wishes would you have?

(Note that the fulfillment of a certain wish could have serious consequences for the order of things!)

My wishes are:
1. No tooth-fillings in my teeth.
2. (Something for a special someone -- I can't say it because I don't want to jinx it.)
3. Three more wishes.

What are yours?

my first would be that no changes to anyone or anything that would not happen naturally or any harm to me or any living creature no deaths or murders due to any wish i make
and my second would be to have wish'es infinitely

I would only have one wish, and that would be to know everything there is to know about every possible subject that facinates me. That would be awsome!

1) A hockey team. Minor league'd be fine.

2) A house in Sydney, Dublin or Vancouver.

3) Fred Durst's brutal murder.

1. That all the children of the world could have loving, caring and kind parents.

2. That all the parents of the world could give their children all the love and kindness they can give.

3. That any unwanted children would find loving, caring foster parents that would treat them as their own with love and kindness.

I agree. That is exactly what I would wish for.

After my infinite wishes, I would go on to own the Maple Leafs, get to meet some of my favourite authors and musicians, get a job I like, get a lot of money, but I would wish to keep it secret, so that I can live a "normal" life, but go home to a huge underground mansion with roller coasters.

I would also help the poor, world peace... all that good stuff too.

1. Knowledge of everything
2. Depending on the first one and the resulting increase in my knowledge
- meeting god (or whatever else there is to be found)
- If god nonexistent I would perhaps wish something like world peace, happyness for everyone, no more misery and so on.
3. Also dependend on the first one, and not possible to say yet.

Immortality, Invulnerability, and eternal youth.

1.To be anywhere but here
2.Ultimate knowledge
3.3 more wishes

4.Money
5.Telekentic powers
6.Immortality...or rather extended youth..It'd suck to comit suicide then wake up in pain because you can't die.

Yes I'm selfish but atlest I'm telling the truth. These are things I really want. Things I'm most likely never going to be able to get. Maybe in realife I would say something less selfish but on here I might as well say I am.

1. To never relenquish my desire to learn more, about myself and the world.
2. To at some point in my life, love the woman who will become of my dreams.
3. To be able to fly.

EvilSquirrel

Wouldn't it be kind a scary being able to fly without wings or anything? Hmm. I like my feet on the ground...Although it might be cool. I'm all for bungee jumping....Skydiving at the least but flying?

my first to eleviate world hunger and disease
my second to destroy abnormal genes that cause blindness, deafness, muteness, (I dont like the word dumb) downs syndrome etc and to make human's immune to any germ's or virus'es
my third to make sure no child was abused or women abused/raped and that nobody ever lived in poverty again so that every living person had a good healthy happy life.

1. Wisdom for everyone
2. Immortality for all loving, moral people (wouldn't want to be stuck alone with everybody else dead, neither with the world as it is.)
3. A significant other

I'll presume there's no wishing for more wishes, else what's the point of saying 3 wishes?
1 - For everyone to realise they have the right to do what they want so long as they don't infringe on the rights of others, and always act on that understanding.
2 - To win the lottery on the next lottery ticket I buy (maximum amount).
3 - If possible, I'd save my 3rd wish until I was sure I wanted to use it, and what I wanted to use it for. If not... Probably an enhanced mind/brain for superior memory and reasoning skills.

Fantasy wishes,
1) Supernatural powers of any kind (preferably the power to control the elements of nature and telekinesis/telepathy)
2) Winning the ultimate lottery draw
3) Immortality / eternal youth

Realistic but will not happen in my lifetime wishes:
1) World Peace (not the 70's kind of World Peace ... I mean the end of global conflicts)
2) The cure for AIDS
3) End of world hunger

Realistic and should happen within my lifetime wishes
1) For television networks to come up with better quality programs instead of reality TV
2) The resurgence of the Star Trek franchise
3) To have a successful life (health, financially, and family wise)

Honourable mention:
For the world to actually care about the environment and actually do something to help preserve it
The end of oil usage as primary energy source
The discovery of a better means of interstellar travel

Why did this thread get into the Cesspool?!

Dreamwalker
07-12-04, 03:29 PM
Perhaps you should have wished that it stays in free thoughts?

Naw, I don´t really understand, I thought it was good...but perhaps there were similar ones already in existence? :(

water
07-12-04, 05:24 PM
No, there were no similar ones.
Maybe the mods thought this thread to be TOO IDEALISTIC.

Ah, it was too much of a challenge. Real life always seems to be so.

Dreamwalker
07-12-04, 05:59 PM
No preexistent threads? Then I think it should have stayed in Free Thoughts. :(

Anyway, I have some more wishes:

1. Being dumb, just a plain idiot
2. Staying naive for all my life
3. live a simple, happy life and die at an old age

great wishes, are they not? I think it is the most comfortable way of living...from a certain perspective.

2. Staying naive for all my life
3. live a simple, happy life and die at an old age

No go, won't do. Too late.
Unless, of course, one sets out to tell oneself every moment of the day that one is really naive and happy. Which usually lands you in a mental institution.

1. Being dumb, just a plain idiot
2. Staying naive for all my life
3. live a simple, happy life and die at an old age

me like these ones, yet i think ill go with:
1. omniscience
2. omnipotentcy

Yes, moderator, please reconsider moving this thread into About the Members.

This thread is about wishes, and wishes are essential if one wants to achieve something in life.

You, moderator, are trying to take this away from people. You could be called to responsibility if we end up being a bunch of losers.

Butterfly effect, don't forget.

invert_nexus

1. I wish a moderator would move this thread to About the Members... :D

Kidding. Don't want to waste a wish. I do agree though. The mods seem to be heavy handed sometimes on what ends up down here. And with the threatened purging of the cesspool drawing near it becomes even more poignant.

1. I wish to have time to learn everything.
2. I wish to have capacity to learn everything.
3. I wish that I should have the initiative to use what I have learned in a positive manner.

Lame wishes, huh? Screw it, I'm a lame guy. It's the simple things that are beautiful in this world.

Notice I didn't wish to know everything. Half the fun is in acquiring knowledge. Having it given to you is a waste and would make it seem... tawdry. Tarnished somehow. And wishing for the initiative to use it is also key. It's easy to sit on knowledge and bask in the warm glowing warming glow of self-fulfillment. There's got to be more than that or it's pointless. Isn't it?

Edit: Oh Rosa, tricky wishing for more wishes like that, but you're apt to get stuck in a loop if you do so. First rule of wishing. You can't wish for more wishes. Continuity must be maintained. You threaten the balance of the cosmos. ;)

But I also said in the opening post that before wishing for someting, one should think that the fulfillment of certain wishes could change the order of things on a grand scale. Including wishing for wishing.

***
Dear Porfiry,

The thread "Three Wishes" has been moved to the Cesspool, but no explanation has been given. Members there think that this thread should be in the About the Members section of the forum, as it is a place for wishes -- and wishes are important.

I therefore ask you to give an explanation why this thread is to be in the Cesspool, and if it is to stay there, why so.

But I do kindly ask you to move it to the About the Members section.

With kind regards,

R.

I don't think I'd want to know everything. Make that optional omniscience, or you'll never have a surprise or a conversation again.

Jenyar

Omniscience is fine while other people don't have it. Knowing everything there is to know at a particular point in time might impress the girl next door, but knowledge isn't everything. Knowing how to play the game isn't the same as playing it. Think "John Doe" (the TV series).

The real problem is omnipotence. Can one omnipotent being move another? And if you're the only omnipotent being, the local "can-do guy", does that mean other people have no freedom? If they do, does that mean you can't control them?

invert_nexus
07-16-04, 09:45 AM
I don't think I'd want to know everything. Make that optional omniscience, or you'll never have a surprise or a conversation again.

That's why I wished not for omniscience but rather for the time and capacity to learn everything. Not only does omniscience make life boring, it would make the knowledge cheap and tawdry. One must earn knowledge not be handed it.

Omnipotence is another issue. Why bother wishing for omnipotence when near infinite knowledge will grant the same effect?

Dreamwalker
07-18-04, 08:58 AM
When did I say "high"? How about a lobotomy? I did not say that it would be a great feeling, but you would be encased in your own private universe. Not that I like that so much, but for some, it might be a happier experience than life.
Furthermore, that post was a joke. :D

cosmictraveler
07-18-04, 09:52 AM
I know that you were joking but others might not have realized that hence I gave the way it really is on the inside. We all already live in our own "universe" wherever we may be located. We all believe in whatever we want and try to live our lives the way we see fit to, or as best possible with the money or circumstances that we are in.

expediency, and i doubt knowing how to do something equates the ability to do it. just because i know how to shoot someone does not mean i have a gun.

You probably never played this game when you were a child. The rule is always you can't have more wishes. Who wants to listen to people's UNLIMITED wishes? We are interested only in the most desirable wishes.

And wishing for more wishes is strategy - NOT cheating.Idoit.

Then OBVIOUSLY one need only 1 wish, and that would be unlimited wishes.

You are the idoit, whatever that means... :D

I wish people wouldn't be idoits...
