There is an ad by IBM on magazines that asks:

The most important action when merging two different companies' IT systems is:

    a. a pep rally
    b. celebrate the merger with a commercial
    c. expensive and tedious "workarounds"
    d. adopt open standards

IBM did not mean to say that what they peddle is open standards? like OS/390, OS/400, RS-6000 and so on...

What they meant to say is that IBM does use Linux and pushes Linux hoping to kick Microsoft out.

Unix fans, tell me, if I am wrong, was not Unix with all its variants an open standard? What is different this time?

Maybe what you read and what they meant are not the same...
