There is a desperate edge to America's rogue War on Terror , the free market fundamentalist vandals running America are worried. The current account deficit is running at $34billion , foreign purchases of the huge US debt are falling rapidly , the US stockmarket is heavily over-valued,and the dollar is uncertain. This War on terror is one last attempt to order the world entirely around the requirements of US monopoly capital, before it can long hope to do so. In other words this is the last throw of the dice before the US economy goes into serious decline - as evidenced in the dramatic falls of the stock markets , the collapses of major corporations , the ballooning cost of prosecuting this war on Terror and other acts of economic vandalism such as the tax cuts for the rich have indicated . This means for America controlling the oil and fossil fuel riches in the Mid East . It means attacking Iraq, installing a replacement Saddam Hussein and taking over the world's second-largest source of oil. It means surrounding a new economic challenger, China, with bases, and intimidating the leaders of its principal economic rival, Europe, by undermining NATO, and setting off a trade war. There is only one way such rogue power can be resisted. That is by its own citizens , in a violent revolution , just like in 1776 , to say how critical things are in America would be is this , those rebels of 1776 , would today be arrested under the US PATRIOT ACT and the HOMELAND SECURITY BILL !
If this were the case then they are doing a seriously half-assed job of it given the resources they have. If this was a last desperate gamble then why would they hold back? Just send in 200,000 or 500,000 more troops, create an incident or a major accident say you found a nuclear bomb, biological or chemical weapons warehouse in Baghdad and or Basra... Oops they went off and killed 4 million Iraqis oh that evil Saddam. Or plant them and detonate them in city centers...It was Al Quaida (let a few hundred US troops be killed for authenticity sake) No what is going on now has all the hallmarks of bad government not any desperate last gamble to save the US that is just wishfull thinking as is a violent revolution in the US we can vote people out of office you know.
America did create an incident with 9/11 and the elusive non-existent Iraqi WMD . Bad Goverment he says ! .... and they let this guy walk the streets .
I do think Iraq represents a last ditch attempt for the US to remain the superpower. However it’s Americans who are behind it, not some cabal. They have become accustomed to the good life and to keep the good times rolling they are willing to kill, steal, and oppress. Not that history isn’t replete with that story.

Not sure what you mean by that. That the US is in decline there is no doubt. Its borrowing is out of control, giving only a reprieve from the inevitable. There is no way Americans can maintain their standard of living save by using their remaining power to grab money and keep people down. And the opportunities for that are waning even as many other countries are coming of age. Unfortunately about Iraq Americans been hoodwinked and only Bush Oil is profiting.
