I have recently heard about the String Theory which said that there are loops and strands of 10-dimensional space-time but are tolled up to show only 4-dimentional space-time. In this theory, matter and energy is a part of space and time and everything can be explained by this TOE - Theory of Everything. Can someone explain this theory please?

Thanx for the links, Hevene. I too, now have much to study.

On the Superstring Theory:
"Before he spoke, [Howard] Georgi chalked at the on the blackboard:

Steve Weinberg, returning from Texas,
Brings dimensions galore to perplex us.
But the exra ones all
Are rolled up to a ball
So tiny it never affects us."

(Martin Gardner 1995, quoting Macmillan, 1986)

Everything is made up of strings.

If the theory got proven to be true, what would happen to our society? Could we be heading into a completely wrong direction?

Hi Hevene,

How would you relate society with the fact that string theory is proven to be correct/wrong ?

Bye!

Crisp

What I meant was if the theory was proven to be true, than what could happen to all the religous beliefs and could it be possible that the world that we understand is completely wrong as we are viewing it in our frame of reference and it could be something completely different.

What happened to religious belief when it was finally accepted that Earth was not flat and not the center of everything.

Not very much. So why should string theory make a difference?

Think about Galilio when he supported that sun is the center of the unverse, just because his discovery had a conflict with the Ptolemaic's belief, he was imprisoned for the rest of his life. The Sting Theory might not raise such issue, but still it could be something huge, it could change our view of the world hence, might raise some problems.
