This is a call for nominations for the position of moderator in the Pseudoscience forum. The moderator will be chosen from the nominees at a later date - Please declare your intention to run in this thread. Self-nominations only, please.

:m: Peace.

Dr Lou Natic

I self nominate myself

Stryder
04-30-04, 06:49 AM
I'd be happy to moderate Pseudoscience, so I nominate myself as well.

Thor
04-30-04, 07:12 AM
I guess I'll self-nominate myself too. I've always had a keen interest in the paranormal, aliens and just the plain freaky. I've never posted in Pseudoscience purely for the reason that it is unmoderated. So yeah...

Dr Lou Natic
04-30-04, 07:32 AM
Hmmm...
I knew this thread should have been closed straight after my post.
See? I have an instinct for moderation.

How much does it pay?
What are the insurance plans offered?
What are the benefits packages offered?
How much paid vacation time?
who would be the relief moderator for "sick leave"?

Damn. Dr Lou, Thor, and Stryder all have my support. Damn. Tough choice... Better make a speech when the polls open.

OH goodness doesn't moderator mean editor? Like the job Goofyfish has been doing?

craterchains (Norval
04-30-04, 10:01 AM
ahhhhhhh now that you mention it FieryIce, "SELECTIVE EDITOR" would seem to be a much better job description.

Well, we move things, ban people, and decide the policy of the website as well. We are your supreme over lords and you will respect us. Now put a bucket on your head and pretend to be a robot.

Thor
04-30-04, 10:13 AM
Wait, you people do that? I thought all you did was edit stuff, make sure threads stay in check, make sure people follow the rules, move threads to their relevent places and generally help out members in the most political of manners.

But now your job sounds cool!

My arguement is, if Coffee can do it, so can I :D

Keep up the good work Coffee ;)

Indeed, sucking up to me will work, Thor. Fetch me my pipe so I can smoke some crack. Also, check your PMs, you have a suprise waiting for you. It isn't a virus or anything, I swear.

Thor
04-30-04, 10:38 AM
I didn't think I was sucking up to be honest. And nuts to the pipe.

Anyway, I shall stop posting in this thread and allow others to self nominate. I have a feeling Avatar will show up.

Stryder
04-30-04, 11:25 AM
Perhaps rather than one mod there should be two? That could work, as long as the mods get on.

I nominate Stryderunknown
he can count on my support

Self-nominations only, please.

Your not reading what was instructed. Election seconds were not asked for.

I wanted to show the rest of the potential wanabees that one nominee already has support and that there is no reason for them to nominate themselves now /evil grin

edit: rats! I'm sorry, I didn't read that "self nominations only".
my bad :(
a mod can delete my posts here if he/she feels that it's needed

sargentlard
04-30-04, 02:33 PM
I also nominate myself. I've got the experience, the tenacity, the lack of life and impending summer vacation.

zonabi
04-30-04, 02:49 PM
stryder or sargent would be good for the job, in my eyes.

but i am not nominating them , of course

heh

CounslerCoffee
04-30-04, 03:30 PM
Stryder, I thought we needed one for Pseudoscience and one for Parapsychology? I suppose that we'll be having another election right after this one.

Stryder
04-30-04, 03:44 PM
Thats a good point CounslerCoffee. Perhaps giving different areas to runner up nominees would also be a good idea. that way those that could have been bothered to do a moderation job, don't miss out at getting a position.

The BIG question - will the Pseudoscience forum be run by someone with a brain in their head or will it be a whacko fanatic?

Avatar
04-30-04, 06:34 PM
I'd prefer smone with brain

crazymikey
04-30-04, 06:44 PM
I nominate: Stryder too.

However, if I was mod, I would probably delete near every post by Avatar, Persol, Q, Votorx, as they never say anything sensibe ;)

here's the "whacko fanatic" you were talking of, (Q) :D

Persol
04-30-04, 07:02 PM
Hmmm... backing your position up with evidence is not 'sensibe'?

Could you do us a favor and not be 'sensibe' then?

Crickets creep me out, but, while I'm still here, I might as well declare my support for Sargentlard.

Candidates for the position of moderator, and users of the Pseudoscience forum, should consider how they would like moderation of that forum to be conducted. For that purpose, I have created a new thread in that forum to gather ideas of the users on that topic.

More formal election speeches will come later, but now's your chance to toss some ideas around.

Please post your views here:

I nominate myself. I moderate another forum of another board and have for the last year or so. The topic there is "serious discussion" and I've always prided myself in being as impartial as I could. I've edited/moderated posts that violated the rules in spite of my own bias to the topic.

I've posted my personal opinion as to what the purpose and goals for the Pseudoscience forum should be in this thread (http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=35573), but would moderate/edit only in accordance with the rules of the forum, whatever they might be.

Unlike crazymikey, I would not delete "near every post" of those with whom I generally disagreed, even if they were nonsensical. The forum rules would be the only guidline for such action, not personal biases.

As a side note, I think that the Pseudoscience forum should have two moderators.

Um, no. I think it should be like this:

Pseudoscience: Moderator #1
Parapsychology: Moderator #2

I think two mods are needed, but that each should have different sub-forums.

I reckon Sarge or Dr Lou...

I'd nominate myself, but I have a very strong feeling that the above mentioned nominees echo my opinion.

Hell,
I nominate myself anyhow.

I don't know if I would want the job, psuedoscience is a hell hole! I would most likely find my self closing most of the threads down for being totally ridicules. If I can go out and find other threads in other sub-forums and move them to psuedoscience that would be good.

I'm running my own forum in latvian (no, it's not a clone of sciforums) and can tell you that it is not likely to be possible. Nowadays Sciforums seems to be running under a heavily modified version of vBulletin software (correct me if I'm wrong) and though I'm running a open source phpBB the general principles are the same (as I've been looking into different forum software). Basically what you want to do is under the authoroty of the moderators of other forums, because moving a topic from a specific forum to another is managed by the user who has mod rights @ the first one. So if you wanted to do that, you'd have to be a mod in all of the forums, which of course would be pretty cool ;)

Thor
05-01-04, 06:40 PM
After a lot of thinking five minutes yesterday afternon, I've decided that I don't think I could run the psuedoscience section. It needs someone who frequents there often and knows the members. Not some new guy who's posted there once like a year ago to come along and tell them what's what. It needs someone the members there can respect.

So I gracefully drop out of the race and wish the other runners the best of luck.

Thanks

Thor

Some of our mods have that power. Goofyfish for example.

Avatar
05-01-04, 07:17 PM
yeah, he's the so called "super op"
but he is not limited to just moving the topics, he has the full mod rights in all of the forums (at least by script default)

Persol
05-01-04, 10:45 PM
phpBB actually has mods which allow you to do just this. vbull seems to be more feature rich, so I wouldn't really be surprised if it had the feature.

goofyfish,

Don't forget when you make the voting poll to make it multi-choice. Multi-choice voting us superior to conventional voting in accurately portraying what the public wants.

Can a moderator close this thread... unless, of course, someone wants to nominate him or herself at the last minute?

Is only the management allowed to start a nomination thread for a particular subforum?

Well I nominate myself I am not too late.

How about a freaking poll already?
