View Full Version : Who Is Interested ??
Are there any posters out there really interested in science ???
Or is the world so metal p o i s o n e d as to be totally rude, apathetic and in general totally anti-free discussion !!!!!!!!!!
I have raised the flag of science.... who salutes????
It seems alot of people are really interested in science. But high school doesn't teach science. Hell high school doesnt teach. How can you ask the smart questions when you dont know the basics and how do you learn the basics without making slightly dumb questions. Also if you dont hold onto what you believe in whats the point?

yes even junior school doesn't teach. Its like we wasted a good chunk on our brain power because our public school systems suck.

I'm interested in science! Science is cool, man.
Hey dumb questions are really kewl, because it brings out all types of information.
I never worry about dumb questions, we are all dumb in some parts of science. I was really worried that there seems to be a world wide trend to rudeness, and big headness..
Anyone else find this a problem... trolls and all really destroy a discussion.
Good to see at least three people are genuine

:D Science is probably mankind's greatest endeavour.
 I love it, both because of how much it improves our lives and for its own sake. I wouldn't have done a degree in science, and now be giving up both spare time and money to do another, if I didn't have an emotional attachment to it.
And therein lies the paradox: one generally considers scientific reasoning to be free from emotion, purely logical ( :bugeye: My logic is not in question, Captain Kirk... ). Yet those who devote their lives to science, and those who achieve true scientific breakthroughs, must surely be guided by a real keenness and passion for their work.

If you have a question
You want to test
You've got to make your
Hypothesis.
For your guess to be smart
Gotta do your part.
Get the research
Before you start.
Refrain:
Oh, the Scientific Method,
It's the way to go, yes it is.
Yes, the Scientific Method,
If you want to show what you know.
And now you're set
To design your test.
Change one variable.
Control the rest.
Then you get your data
That's numbers to you.
Repeat the trials.
Make sure they're true.
Oh, the Scientific Method,
It's the way to go, yes it is.
Yes, the Scientific Method,
If you want to show what you know.
And keep a record.
Keep it in a book.
If anyone asks you,
Say, "Take a look!"
Then make a graph
The results to cite.
Then draw the conclusions.
Were you wrong or right?
Oh, it really doesn't matter.
You just want to know.
Right or wrong is not the question.
You just want to show
What you know.
Oh, Yeah! That's right.
Hey man, whatcha doin' today
I'm gettin' in my rocket and I'm flyin' away
This planet Earth is much too small for me
So I'm headin' to the stars to see what's there for me
To the stars ooo ooo I'm flyin' away
To the stars ooo ooo I'm leavin' today
ooo ooo ooo
The first star from Earth is our big yellow Sun
At ninety three million miles it is the closest one
And at 6000 K it's pretty hot stuff
But this just won't do, it's not quite far enough
To the stars ooo ooo I'm not gonna stay
To the stars ooo ooo I'm flyin' further away
ooo ooo ooo
It's Alpha Centauri that's the next one I see
And at 4.3 light years it's a system of three
We think one of those stars is just like our Sun
But maybe someone lives there, hey, that might be fun!
To the stars ooo ooo I'm not gonna stay
To the stars ooo ooo I'm flyin' further away
ooo ooo ooo
As I speed in my craft and I'm shifting my gears
I see Barnard's Star out here at six light years
It's a dim red dwarf, though not its claim of worth
It's the fastest star we know and it's moving toward Earth
To the stars ooo ooo I'm not gonna stay
To the stars ooo ooo I'm flyin' further away
ooo ooo ooo
The next star out on this trek of mine
Is another red dwarf - Wolf 359
It's extremely dim and it's not very hot
It's also nice and small, I think I've found my spot
It's a comfortable orbit I'm in
I'll make like a planet and spin
I'm glad I finally found this place
Now I have my own time and space
Now I have my own time and space
ooo ooo ooo

Here's a little secret of modern science that most scholars try to “brush under the rug”. The evening of November 18, 1621, a twenty-two-year-old Frenchman serving in Hapsburg army that had camped in southern Germany had a psychedelic experience with mushrooms in which an angel appeared to him, saying, “The conquest of nature is achieved through measurement and number.” This trip was recorded in the diary of Rene Descartes, the founder of all modern science.

I have no problem with stupid questions...just stupid answers.
>> .just stupid answers.
LOL
What is a stupid answer... do they not stimulate your brain if you call them stupid.... you obviously must have generated a judgement and a reason....
LOL!!! you don't like your brain to be strainned????
No there are no stupid questions or answers... a good opportunity to review your own knowledge and logic..... well that is the scientific, the former is elitist.

if religion and philosophy are an attempt to comprehend the universe and the meaning of life, then science is the best portal. -j.haught
I like Science, and I like reading these Science forums.

of course, descartes (or that angel) was wrong
>> descartes (or that angel) was wrong
Rene Descartes was more right than most cosmologists, in conception of the structure of the Universe, he eclipsed Newton...
Newton was brilliant but also just lucky, IMO
It's always been my thought that most, if not all of the questions you ever had about the universe should be answered at the moment of your death........depending on your point of view.
Atta Boy
I'm interrested in science. However when I was young (long time ago we had just gotten electricity) I wasn't, ending in studying accounting  . Too old now and not enough knowledge thus stuck to merely reading books and doing some basic courses.

Be that as it may, but it appears you've missed the contextual meaning of the statement. It was thought that by measuring and counting things in nature, it would bring one closer to god's meaning and order in nature, one consequence being the logical quagmire of arguing how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
>> how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
Silly philosophical exercise..... but of practical importance
>> It was thought that by measuring and counting things in nature, it would bring one closer to god's meaning and order in nature,
I agree with this conjecture, but only if god's logic, or that logic imposed upon the brain is employed...... maths
>> you've missed the contextual meaning of the statement
and yes I did.... the pin dance is famous, I did not know Decartes was a player..... I now know more :) Thanks
