I think seti@home did this first, I'm really suprised it has taken so long for someone else to try it. At http://fightaidsathome.scripps.edu/ they have an application called "FightAIDS@home" that seems to work like the seti@home app. As much as i like the idea of searching for life on other planets it's nice to see this enormous resource (the combined power of idle home computers) used on a problem that's a little closer to home. I have no idea how much good this kind of thing can do but it seemed interesting at the very least.
We have a folding@home group here at Sciforums. http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=15074&page=1 Free distributied computing apps are everywhere these days, but ya seti@home started the trend.
silly of me to assume this was only the second, its just too powerful a tool (potentially). Odd that I've only heard of the two so far (three including the one you mentioned), I'll have to see what else is out there. BTW - Do you know if any of these projects have made breakthroughs as a result of the apps? just curious how effective they have been.
Ya sure they have just go to there sites. Here are some other ones I know of http://www.ud.com/home.htm http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/introduction.html
