    My dad and I are building a computer from scratch...really cool stuff but right now we can't get by the bios...HELP !

    Are you getting an error message? A blank screen? Do you see the video card BIOS? What type of processor? motherboard?

    well...

    I have thunderbird graphicing chip...pen. 3 prosseser, dvd-rom-13.g hd 128 memory...and thats all...i think. also we get the bois screen but we can't boot it up...we tryed booting with win 98...didn't work...and then we tryed a cd that came with the case...but i am not sure...by the way i am trying to learn unix. cool huh?

    i'll bet you processor speed is set wrong
    the way it works is this
    bus speeds
    33, 66, 100, 133
    multipliers
    x2, x2.5, x3.0, x3.5 ......

    dont know if your machine has jumpers on the motherboard or if it has it in the bios

    but lets say you have a 133mhz bus speed on your motherboard and you processor is 733mhz
    to get this figure you must multiply 133 x 5.5 = ~733
    or what ever but that is the math to use , and from your posts im sure youll get it from there

    what kinda unix?? i am more of a software guy..... bios.... bios... jsut make sure yuo settings are right??? bios pretty much is the sole reason i have broken 3 computers, pissed me off so much that a axe 'hacked' the computer. pretty kool though

    I don't really know what kind of unix, but I'm just learning about it...my dad is the real computer wiz, he know unix, linix, and something called oracle 7. Any ways thanks for the help I'll try it and get back to you.

    Ask dad if he knows a better way to keep a CPU cool.
