Are all people by nature self-destructive, and just need the right push to send them speeding down that hill? If it exhists is it programmed into your subconcience can it be repressed? Please give me your opinions on this.

self destruction! woot! finaly somthing im good at!
well, any form of destruction realy.

    ok ok ok....

id say its more of a consius sort of hard wiring. in the back depths of your subconsius you gerneraly want to live.
even the most basic forms of animal life strive to live.
however when you get pushed too far and into that realm of thought, you cant get out.
sometimes you dont want to be alive, but you dont want to die.
sometimes you want to die but you dont want to kill yourself.
othertimes youd love to slit your wrist but you dont wanna die.
but when you want to destroy and you want to die then they clash and murge and then you become truely self destructive.

*sigh*... sometimes its just easier to down that bottle of pills and slit your wrist,to jump off that stool and feel that noose snap tight...

Most people, especially the young ones, have an inherent sense of immortality because it doesn't really occur to them on the surface level that they will actually die someday. They can take the chance and commit daredevil acts becasue they don't spend time thinking too deeply about the fragility of their existance.

I apologies for the title, to lazy to write one.

What about the people that kill themselves why isn't their self preservation instinct working. About everyone has at some point or another had a suicidal thought, but as far as I know, animals don't kill themselves. Is suicide a purely human trait, are we repressing the survival instinct is that even possible?

I guess one reason could be because of the complex stress that humans have to go through, compared to animals.

No, not all people are self destructive for if they were we would all be dead! You can supress thoughts that are suicidal for awhile but if they persist you should talk to someone about them. Humans have free will and with that comes the problems that are inheriant with it. We all have our problems it's just that some can cope better with them than others, that's will power.

when life becomes so miserable that you see no hope for it changing for the better and you can no longer cope with living then scuicide is the option. some people undergo terrible lives yet dont kill themselves. some people live what many may consider a perfectly happy life but one day may be found hanging in there closet. because animals cant think of their life in a self aware sence they cant actualy realise that living in pointless.

    and what about lemings?
and ive read about some kind of bird that dives off cliffs into the ocean to catch fish and some realy high percent die from crashing into rocks.
and when you go on vacation and leave your dog tied to a tree with a bucket of food and a bucket of water and he nocks over the water and eats all the food teh first day then wraps him self around the tree till he cant move.
how about bumble bees, the males die from internal rupturing when they have sex.
