I know this question seem completely out of the blue but if you were to divide the studies of social sciences into no more then 5 or 6 broad categories, how would you split them up? And what would be in each category?

Mitch et all....I would recommend that you guys read C. Wright Mill's The Sociological Imagination to answer this question.

An easy answer would be; Social Sciences, sciences concerned with human society and the institutions, relationships, and ideas involved in social life. Fields include anthropology, sociology, political science, economics, history, law, and psychology.

But it would really depend on why you wanted to divide them in the first place.
