I will state now that i follow no organised religion but i have a question to ask....
If God/Satan/whatever appeared before u and gave u a choice. the choice being you can create paradise on earth in exchange for an eternity in hell for yourself. or you can create hell on earth and receive all u ever wanted and dreamed of. which would u do?
would u sacrifice yourself to an eternity of torment for everybody else?
how about if the choice u were given was to just have earth and civilisation continue on its own way in exchange for your eternal pain an suffering .. would u do it?
do any of us ever get given that choice?
the reason i am asking this is because i have reached the point in my life where i want answers, i want to be in control, i want to live forever..... how do i do this... do i put all of my efforts into destroying a corrupt and hedonistic society and recreate it in an image i beleive to be th ebest possible one... or do i want to help humanity reach the next evolutionary level and ascend from the primitive creatures we are and become...something more..
do i even have the ability to do this..... i suppose they is only one way to find out...
but before i go think on this...
1. would u sacrifice everything for everyone else.. the good and the bad included?
2. if reality is shaped by the entity that perceives it, what would happen if u found a way to step beyond mundanity and become.. :)
might be worth a try

That is an enourmous question with an impossible number of circumstatial considerations. I am not a fence sitter so in an ideal situation I would take hell. Your realise that for me both would be damnation, one purely concerned with eternal guilt and the other with pain, torture and the like, which is acctually kinda kinky.
I should add that I am a Christian and that I would see this as the morally correct option and my self-worth would be multiplied to infinity for such a noble deed. If you had posed this question in medieval England most people would have agreed with me (or so they would have said.)
can I just add that I hate politics, I just do. Sorry I hate power play, its not relevant but I hate it lots.

Sometimes the only way to win is to deny battle.
I would make neither choice.

sorry fella, but simply by stating th whole self worth thingy, would mean you would be doing it for a selfish reason. which would destroy the whole self worthiness thing
would u really take hell.... oh man that is so.... well... silly
as lucifer was "alleged" to say.. better to reign in hell than serve in heaven..
i would say fuck em, they are not worth it... why save the world to have it continue as it is..
true some people are worth saving, but it is better to sacrifice a few to destroy all the bad.. :)
how about if the choice u were given was to just have earth and civilisation continue on its own way in exchange for your eternal pain an suffering .. would u do it?
No, I wouldn't. Life and civilisation might be an/my illusion.
Well if that happend....than i would want to recieve what ever and dreamed of...and that woudl be for everyone to live in paradise!!!!!1HAHA i tricked ya.

Yes, I think I would. This would (as everything else) still be for selfish reasons as it would fill me with great happiness and pride to know that I affected so many other people in a good way. It would be godlike.
do i want to help humanity reach the next evolutionary level and ascend from the primitive creatures we are and become...something more..
This is an honorable goal that the world should be striving for...instead we quibble over oil and memes thousands of years old.
do i even have the ability to do this
No, but every little bit helps. Its like voting, your one vote doesnt change the outcome but to abstain is to deny the little power you do have.

Isn't happiness a concept that requires good? You're saying you would give up good and bad because it would make you feel good. That doesn't make much sense.

I think it would be more honorable to realize that "the next stage of evolution" isn't something we can guess at. Rather, it's only something we can wait for. Hitler had a pretty strong idea of what "the next stage of evolution" was for mankind. Keep me away from the power of those who believe they know the next stage for anyone other than themselves.

I think that's the knife in the back of the question. What happens if you choose your personal joy, and your personal joy is seeing yourself along with the rest of the world in paradise?
That's definitely a much easier death for the question than what I would deal to it: "Isn't that the situation we're in already?" The only difference is your question was phrased as one decision fixing eternity, rather than making that choice continuously.
Id rip satans balls off and choke god to death with em,and tell em to both fuck themselves.
But thats just me.

I would keep playing whatever RPG I am currently playing and tell whichever deity popped in to get the hell out of my apartment.
or you can create hell on earth
Doesn't it seem like some people were already granted that wish?

No. It doesn't seem that way at all.

Give me a break. We should just wait and do nothing instead of trying to control our own destiny??? I bet you are exactly who your parents wanted you to be. :p I think actively pursuing a better world and life for all of mankind is a bit nobler than waiting around for the world to fall apart. And don't bring hitler into this..he was a christian with a chip on his shoulder...

Can you explain to me how you will feel good in a universe where there is no such thing as good or bad? Once you explain that I'll conceed that you would, in fact, do exactly as you said.

Of course we should control our own destiny, that's why I left my parents so young. I've lived my own life and occasionally shocked my parents with what I've done. What I'm saying is that we shouldn't try to control anyone else's destiny. I can guess endlessly at the next stage in my evolution, and once I think I have a good idea I can do something about it. If I try to guess at the next stage of -your- evolution, and then do something about it, then I'm wasting both of our time and maybe making your life worse. I mentioned Hitler because he thought he knew the next stage of evolution for an entire country, and he did something about it. So, in summary: control your own destiny and further your own evolution, but don't waste time trying to figure out the next stage of -human- evolution.
