http://www.zmag.org/content/showarticle.cfm?SectionID=15&ItemID=3468 "US troops have sat back and allowed mobs to wreck and then burn the Ministry of Planning, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Irrigation, the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Information. ..... and armoured personnel carriers and Humvees have been placed inside and outside both institutions. And which ministries proved to be so important for the Americans? Why, the Ministry of Interior, of course with its vast wealth of intelligence information on Iraq and the Ministry of Oil. "
Oil and a fertile valley are all that country has. THey lose their oil industry they lose any hope of ever being successfully being rebuilt. It would be like removeing all manufacturing plants from taiwan or the removal of the nile from egypt.
The implication is: Had Iraq no valuable resource, they’d not have been attacked. Among other signs, general Tommy Franks made that clear when he held his command meeting in Saddam’s palace, effectively saying “We’re your new masters now.”
Had Iraq had no valuable rescources they would all be a bunch of guys in the desert herding goats. There would be nothing TO attack. Saddam would have had no power base and the country wouldnt be able to support enough people to really matter on an international scale.
Not one illegal warhead. Not one drum of chemicals. Not one incriminating document. Not one shred of evidence that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction in more than a month of war and occupation. So why did America attack Iraq?
If he had wanted to establish that message he would have likely held his meeting in the Great Mosque.
