I think that the US should work on its own problems like unemployment, health care and crime(just for an example) first before trying to fix other problems in other countrys. I want my country to be fixed before we try to fix other peoples messes. thoughts?
No country is perfect so that means there would never be able to intervene in other cituations. Which means more Rwandas.
Or problems (for the most part) are petty compared to other countries. Situations where we can stop indiscriminate killings demand our attention. That said, we seem to be involved in some 'policing' for other reasons.
your right no country is perfect but arent we supposed to be the greatest country in the world? We should be able to do better that this. ok I can agree with that but we as people of this country need to tell the goverment to stop fucking around with other countrys fix there problems if need be and get back to solveing our problems. some times there seems to be to more policing and less doing something about it and doing it right the first time.
I saw a true picture of our economic situation today. It is not unusual while driving around town to see signs hung up on telephone poles or on sticks driven into the ground. The most frequent ones are; House cleaning done, Lose weight easily, yard work cheap. ect.. Today I saw a milestone. A sign along the raod that was nailed to a stick said: "web site design". Our economy is hemmoraging jobs and yet there are those who will deny it.
Its the goverments job to fix the economy besides just lower and rasing taxes. I saw a couple help wanted signs this weekend.
I think america should withdraw its troops from the world for 8 years and focus on our problems in this hemisphere before going over seas. Mexico is a drug problem same with the ports and south america. Lets rebuild our industries and economy while we are at it so we become the greatest nation of all time before we found an international regime.
yumyum, As you get older, you will find, like I did, that Republicans only care about money and helping out the special interests groups that got them elected. If you look at the Republican Presidents we had over the last two decades, you will find that their "compassions" are limited to corporations, the defense industry, and wealthy individuals. They only pretend to care about other things in order to get elected (or re-elected). Bushy is the same way. As long as Bushy's approval ratings remain high, he couldn't care less about unemployment, health care, or crime. Over the next several months he will "pretend" to care because he remembers what happened to his father when he ran for a second term. In conclusion, don't expect any serious progress on the social problems we have in the US until the Democrats retake the Presidency (and hopefully, the House and the Senate).
You trust the entity that ruined the American economy - the government - to fix that which it has ruined? You are far more trusting than I, Salty.
I'd say that both major political parties put a priority on money and owe favors to special interests groups. The Republican party is no more owned by big business and the defense industry than the Democrats are by labor unions and racial/gender pressure groups. Legalizing drugs would relieve prison crowding and liberalizing laws allowing law-abiding citizens to keep and bear firearms would enable citizens to better defend themselves against criminals. And what problem is there with healthcare in America? The Democrats would undoubtedly focus on social issues, possibly more so than Bush, but their solutions would hardly be what I would call progress.
Galt "and what prolblem is there with health care in America." The national Academies of Sciences seems to think we have a problem. http://www.cancerpage.com/cancernews/cancernews5174.htm Below is an interesting link that explains what has happened to our health care system. Noy all crusty old farts with good health insurance will be interested. http://www.yourdoctorinthefamily.com/grandtheory/default.htm
Re: Galt I've read the articles and concluded that there really isn't any "problem" with American healthcare that you wouldn't find in many other nations. Nor is there any "problem" that couldn't be addressed by public demand, short of the demand for access to healthcare for all which could only be accomplished via government intervention which would serve only to worsen the problems in other areas (waste, timeliness, safety, etc.). About a year ago I saw a news story on television about a doctor who recognized the desire many had for a doctor-patient relationship and specialized in a low-patient schedule with thorough visits with those he did see. Supply and demand; the public demands it and therefore a physician supplies it.
I meant to put a not inbetween "Its (not) the goverment's.." Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

Most people in this country are so ready to belive what good ol uncle sam says that they dont think theres a problem or they belive the goverment will make it all better. The people of this country need to become more aware of whats going on. We need to come up with a whole new political Philosophy on which to base a new goverment.
What kind of new political philosophy would you suggest? Ultimately, every political/economic system falls into one of three categories: individualist (capitalism), collectivist (communism and socialism) or various mixtures of the two (mixed-economy). And to be honest, I don't see how any socio-economic system can defy the universal law dictating that everything done by the government be far less efficient and affordable than an equal or similar good or service provided by the private sector.
Think our economy is in bad shape? On a trip to mexico I reallized the peso is one step away from being replaced by a new form of currency: the chicken. Some shops arent even accepting pesos anymore, just dollars and barter. Not quite post war germany but getting there. It is like that in many places in the world from what I see. And heck. Under the line of thought that yumyum displayed a man who has a gambling problem would not be allowed to try to stop another man from raping somebody in the middle of the street until he got his gambling problem fixed.
And heck. Under the line of thought that yumyum displayed a man who has a gambling problem would not be allowed to try to stop another man from raping somebody in the middle of the street until he got his gambling problem fixed. I didnt mean for it to come off as we shouldnt doing anything im just saying we should try a little bit more to fix our own problems. What kind of new political philosophy would you suggest? I dont know really because your right they all fall in to three categories I was thinking maybe theres some way of revising one of them or all of them to come up with a system that can be less money driven, still mantain a healthy economy, give power equaly and give everyone what they deserve. (excusse the bad spelling)
I say we are big enough to split our focus several different ways and still be effective. Pick a half dozen things that need to be fixed inside the country and one outside and fix them if you can. Then move on to a few more things. The biggest thing we need to do is minimize. Ie: cut out the little worthless **** that spend our money but dont really do anything. Like a state changing its license plate design every couple of years.
The biggest problem with our current system is that politicians can not get elected unless they are in the pockets of big business. Problems with society: THE ECONOMY education health care drugs illegal immigration ( the ones with the chickens)
