According to information in the link below, the airline industry has just recieved another $3.5 billion in bail out benifits from the government. This recent $3.5 billion payout was concealed in a wartime budget measure passed by congress. The recent payout comes on top of $15 billion previously given to the airlines.

Should the tax payers be responsible for this bailout?? The executive bonuses involved are scandalous. Delta Chairman Leo Mullin received $13 million plus benifited from a 25.5 million dollar fund that will guarantee retirement pension for executives should the company go bankrupt. The lower level workers will be on their own. (excerpts from link)

I can see govenment backed loans to airlines. We did it for Chrysler back in the eighties and they did pay the money back in full. But in this case the government is just throwing "our' money at the airlines with no strings attached and the CEO's are reaping the benifits.

While we are occupied debating the war, our shirts are being ripped from our backs.

OH MY GOD. Do you actually believe that the Corporate welfare doled out by countless, primarily Republican, administrations are all FDR's fault. That goes far beyond being rediculous.

Any administration at any point in time could have eliminated Corporate wellfare.

It is quite apparent that your thinking is confined to a small envelope with "Herbert Hoovers" name on it.

"Saving farms and saving airlines whats the difference"

The difference between saving family farms in the 1930's and saving airlines in the 21 century is as diffent as night and day.

Family farms did not have CEO's collecting multimillion dollar salaries paid by the taxpayers.

If FDR's idea was so terrible why didn't Reagan stop it?? He had the public support and the political support. Why didn't he do it???

Because politicians live thier lives in the pockets of corporate America.

ok the diffrence is almost nothing. the only diffrence is one just looks good to the public then the other. What happens when you start paying corporations money for farms is that instead of people looking people making thier money threw there own labor and injenuity they make money by banning together and making a group so you get "your pieace of the pie" from the goverment. FDR did what he did out of his good heart, he thought it was a good idea. But what he did was make the goverment responsible for private failures.

Now we have farmers getting paid not to grow certain foods and airline ceos getting paid to fuck up.

Obviously, who else but the tax payers must shoulder all that and mountains more to come.

Candidates from both parties receive donations from corporations. This ensures that said corporations will always be owed a favor by whomever is in power.

    That's socialism for you.

Because corporate donations help politicians get elected and the goal of pretty much every politician is to get elected and then reelected.

Of course not. Nor should we be responsible for the bailout of bankrupt foreign nations, earthquake victims in India, people dying of AIDS in Africa...

I can't believe that the general public is just sitting around and allowing this to happen. Either they are all wrapped up in reality TV, or just to ignorant, complacent or (fill in the blank). I e-mailed my congressman the moment I read about the big, Tax Payer Giveaway. Hell I will probably never even get a reply. I need my feaking shirt back!
