I've posted an experimental chat room for sciforums. This is a live chat and is a good medium for some friendly and casual banter that might not fit optimally with the persistent discussion format of sciforums. Some notes: - this is a Java applet - the chat room is operated by a third party company, and any ads you see in the chat room are theirs. - user names in the chat room are not authenticated against the sciforums database, so be aware of the potential for impersonation - the chat room is not moderated, but nonetheless behave yourselves! Nice idea, nut nobody was there now either, but I guess they will be as soon as the the news of the chat gets out. Annoying with the popup commercials though...

It says I have to download something from microsoft. Is it safe? Last time I downloaded something from them, my computer got screwed beyond repair. I had to format.

I don't know, it seems rather scary to me the fact that anybody can impersonate my username and go on as me. Or that i might talk to somebody who is not them. I'll have to wait and see the opinion of a few more people before i do this. Sounds really cool though.
