well, i's say its worse in front of your girlfriend. they're usually alot more judgemental than your friends. your friends can handle your goofyness, your girl has to be eased into it...
in front of a girl is worse. they are unforgivable. male friends will laugh and forget it in an hour, women never forget and silently count it against you. they are catty and insincere.
