    as far as i can tell what happens is they are hooked up to an EEG that gives some gross estimate of brain activity, including "brain waves". the subjects get to see this output displayed on a monitor and are trained to be able to alter the output. a certain pattern of output is thought to mean that a certain type of memory circuits are being used. the subjects get to pratice trying to create this pattern of brain activity.

    So basicly they say that some training sessions with this neuro feedback will alow people to improve their memory. Basicly that the neural feedback alows them to somehow strengthen the circuits involved in memory.


    It's an interesting claim. I read the article are there are a few problems, such as poor controls, so i don't beleive it just yet. but it is an interesting line of research.
