I would personally reckon that there would exist between scrabble and verbal intelligence scores reasonably healthy correlation since scrabble itself taps heavily on crystallized and fluid verbal intelligence-the cognitive ability of being able to process and store information and also remain versatile.......

what if you don't have a large vocabulary? then you would suck at scrable.
I'm assuming that verbal intelligence is not meant to just be how large a vocabulary you have.

correlation maybe...causation is a better thign to find though.

I recently did a full 2-days of IQ testing at Deakin University, Burwood campus (with Doctor Andrew Brown), and scored 99.7% on the Verbal Comprehension Index.

I used to play Scrabble all the time when I was about two to four years old, but haven't played it since. Last week I played my first game in over twenty years and won by a large margin.

I would suggest there is indeed a correlation. People who win at Scrabble may indeed have higher VCI scores than those they play against.

U really should play on the Internet Scrabble Club then.....scrabble really is based quite heavily on the linguistic base of vocabulary of individuals and their capacity to hold information, process and analyse...

Adam.....usually what range do ur scrabble scores lie between?Above 400?

I don't usually score anything. I've played it once in over twenty years.

does verbal intelligence include discourse ability (as in stucturing an essay for instance?)

take for example some second language learners, especially those educated in the second language in a rote learning institution, who might have a HUGE vocabulary, to play scrabble with say, but couldn't string it all together in a grammatical way to save their life.
