View Full Version : Optisan scopes
Anybody here have experience with Optisan scopes or does anyone know if they are good? I want to buy the Optisan star 150.
Just found a sort of review of Optisan seems not to good. Maybe i should go for the Meade DS-2127ATS 127mm reflector
Oh for the americans the 150mm = 6" (optisan)
the 127mm is 5" (meade)
Other recomendations are welcome, i already have a 70mm refractor and am looking for a 5" - 7" reflector
I've never heard of Optisan, and all of the normal US scope review sites don't say a word about them.
Meade makes decent scopes. Down in the low end, Orion makes better ones. A very high quality Orion 6" or 8" Dobsonian will only set you back $300-$400 USD.

I'd rather have an EQ mounted one

Sorry for the late reply, but can I ask why you would want an EQ mounted refractor? Are you planning on doing photography?

150 mm reflector would be ideal for photography. The size makes for a very stable configuration. Obviously a bigger scope would gather more light, but they become more of a hassle to set up.
Remember that a 3" refractor (apart from the light collection) will be as good as a 6" reflector, in mose cases( not photography).
And that you can pick up old M42 or screw fit camera lenses for very little. I remember selling a 800mm f9 camera lens ( basically an apocromatic telescope) for 60 uk pounds (120 dollars?).
It may be worth while to pick up a cheap russian camera or digital camera (with a t-mount!) and get a 28mm/200mm lens, to see if the results fulfil your needs...
