    Hi there,

I'm about to begin my final year university project at UMIST. Although my computing skills are strong my project must "use computing to solve a geographical problem / involve some form of geography"

Does anyone have any experience in this field / have any suggestions about possible areas to look into.

I know this might seem rather vague but I would appreciate any input anyone may have. Many thanks.

    Regards,

    Tom Goodacre

Well thinking of Geography, why not write something that works out the distances between locations.

Perhaps using a map grid reference. If you wanted to get real technical you could program "Path finding" via roads/rail etc and perhaps you could take on a Spherical grid reference as used by G.P.S.

Stryder, good idea! Perhaps develop some navigation system using ground-based points of reference.
