I was watching this Movie at HBO and it had some interesting facts that i would like to point out which were predicted for Future:

Sex is an Extra Curriculur Activity.

Loving another Human is being Selfish.

Love gives unnecessary pain.

Children are Taught that Death is a good thing to happen. Its like a Transition.

No one is Allowed or No one is Taught to Cry.

People are given continous Slogans to speak to remain Happy.

No Negetive thoughts are allowed to creep in ones Mind.

what do you think?

bye!

Half of those are inconceivable as far as humanity is concerned: e.g. Humans cannot cease to cry; one cannot simply deactivate the excretion of tears to preclue lamentation, and, even if one could, suffering would only be manifested in other modes of expression ("gnashing of teeth," perhaps?).

Funny I was reading this classic novel by the same name, and it had the same themes. hehe.

You forgot to mention that everyone is a test tube babie and "parent" is a dirty word, or what about the socialistic/communistic social system, and teird caste like socitey, with people bred spacificaly for low level jobs. . . and not to mention the fact that the populace is drugged out of their minds most of the time, heh, they can't cry because 1cubic CM cures 10 bad sentiments!

Classic Dystopian situation, check out 1984 as well, I didn't care much for Brave New World, it didn't really speak to me, it seemed cleche before I even really got into it. . . but then the fact that it's a long standing classic since before I was born probably has a lot to do with that cleche, heh.

In the movie it was shown that people were given continuous feeds whereby people were told to remove all the fears and be positive. It worked on their Sub-consious Brains...and gradually would people have the ideas Ingrained in their brains...

what do you think?

ha, I just got in trouble with a friend two weeks ago because someone they knew had died, and death means nothing to me. It's only the body that dies, the soul lives on, so I can never understand all the fuss when a person dies.

Negative thoughts aren't allowed, eeeeeee. Negative is essential. Imagine not being denied the right to grow from the negativity we experience in our lives.

I second Spacemanspiff's suggestion. Huxley pretty well covers what the Brave New World brings. Besides, it's a great read.

Ah, but for the slings and arrows ....
