Couple of years back Several Professionals in various mags Wrote articles concerning Linux's Revolution. They talked about How powerful Linux was. They talked about the Security. They talked about its Effectiveness. They talked about Microsofts Poor quality Softwares and their Ineffectiveness.

They were talking about a Coup.A revolution, that would bring down Bill Gates to his Knees.Various companies were happy that Finally Microsoft will be out of its Monopoly of the Software market.

What went wrong? The Linux Boom was just a small Fizz...what was the reason for that?...

Several people in the software market Blame Microsoft for this. But was it really because of Microsoft that Linux revolution didnt happen?...
there are several points to note:
    • Linux's Programming was done by Millions of users with patches and fixes coming from various fronts.Various companies were involved with Linux's marketing. Was it really marketing?Compare this with Microsofts own products marketing techniques...
    • Linux was for free. But what were the distribution techniques involved? Was a proper infrastructure given for its Distribution?Nope.Linux was distributed without any proper rules and regulations.
    • Several people sell Linux. That is to say they give price tags to Linux products. Why would anyone buy Linux when they are Getting it for free?Because of small improvements?
    • Literacy.People were not simply accustomed to UNIX.Primarily UNIX was just flavored for System administrators and other technically affluent people, who knew their Business properly.David Clarkes theory of Apocaylpse of Two elephents was never followed, which clearly says that first stage for a Product cycle should be R &D then Standardization and then Biliion Dollar Investment. In this case,R&d was carried in between the implementation.People floated investments before Standardizations were even thought off.
    • Linux Primarily concerns Home users. But is it really that friendly?Bear in Mind that most of the users today are LAME.they wouldnt want to do any simple tasks with some knowledge.Windows enables them to do the task with simplicity rather than requiring a pre-requisite knowledge for the Syntax of the Linux. This makes it difficult for people to be friendly with Linux itself. The GUI that it provides with Linux is exactly not as sleek as todays Window designs.
    • Microsoft people have also entered the Linux's own commanding market.that is with its Server applications systems. This has concerned Linux's own Growth.
    • Piracy may be another factor related to this.
    • FACTS:When Linux was first given it attracted a millions of users.Growth was very rapid.Within a year or so it attracted over 10 Million users worldwide. But since then its growth has slowed down Incredibly.

    thanks.

    bye!

It became popular, and rather than maintain the early idea of being seriously sharp and clean (that was the idea, even though in my opinion Linux never really was that sharp and clean), it gained more and more tools and options until it is almost as bloated as Windows. Except windows is still easier to use.

Linux is one fantastic OS,but for newbies it`s still not easy for use, like Windows. But hidden folders and all that weird M$ stuff...
    Why bother?

    # Linux's Programming was done by Millions of users with patches and fixes coming from various fronts.Various companies were involved with Linux's marketing. Was it really marketing?Compare this with Microsofts own products marketing techniques...

OK lets compare. Lies on the one hand, backed up by a marketing budget thats effectively all the money in the world. And on the linux side stability and value.
MS is still losing business and government accounts every day.

    # Linux was for free. But what were the distribution techniques involved? Was a proper infrastructure given for its Distribution?Nope.Linux was distributed without any proper rules and regulations.

Im not sure what you mean here by proper infrastructure. Do you mean that linux vendors dont make you pay through the nose for product and late updates the way MS does?

    # Several people sell Linux. That is to say they give price tags to Linux products. Why would anyone buy Linux when they are Getting it for free?Because of small improvements?

People usually sell and buy things because of either percieved need or demand. Was there a particular point to this question other than to demonstrate your hazy grasp of economics?

    My Point was:

We know we can Download Linux for Free,But there are several companies which offer Home Versions with a Price Tag...Who the hell is gonna buy these when they have a free one already...

By the way,You know there are people who still think Software should be free,Thats Bull Shit. Its people like those who are doing that. You want a software free for educational Usage?...Who the hell pays to Software engineers out there who work so hard to get their own degrees? and then work hard to make those Softwares......this will lead to a disaster in Software industry i fear.perhaps you will never understand,Since you field of experise in Networking and Linux helps you out for free. This is what your concern is.who gives a damm about Software industry?
