I need to build a surround sound system for my room as could use a good sound setup for my xbox.
I want to build something which I can use to switch between 3 differnt A/V Inputs, and break off an audio output to the Tv and to a amp which I would use for the 3 speakers.
I already got the Amp schematics but I seem to need help with the rest.
    Thanks!

You got anything else? Like satelite reciever? or you just have cable? VCR? Does the Xbox have inputs on it or is it just outputs? Normally if you have a VCR connected you would have the Coax cable (from your cable box or satelite reciever) going to the VCR, then take the RCA cables, split off each left and right cable, and run the Video RCA to the Xbox Input (if it has an input), then the Xbox output to the TV input . Run one set of left and right RCAs to the TV, and the other set to the amp.

It looks a lot better in my mind then in writing

muhahahahah, thats the easy way out.

Are the audio A/V Outputs juse like unamplified sound signal?
So i can go directly from those plugs to a homemade amp & sound handler?

Does XBox have digital output? optical, coaxial? It must have..
My dream system is to have optical digital output into a digital amplifier with 5 speaker output. It wouldn't be too expensive either. I saw some digital surround amplifiers for 150£ (230$?), speakers are separate. You could have brilliant sound for movies that way.

    ooooh, good question.
It has digital out, as in the Yellow video plug then the White & Red audio plugs.

Check out if it's digital.. if it is, I really recommend getting digital amp. Otherwise I am not sure. Since the coaxial is compressed, so you might lose quality for music. I don't know this well enough.

Digital isn't YWR (video and 2-channel audio). Digital refers to your optical out...which gets you some really nice quality. Also for any video I would go S-video, especially using anything with DVD or digital cable.

ndrs: You dream system is only 5 speakers? I bet I got more wattage on my computer sound system. My dream system consists of 8 speakers and two subs. Digital Amp at 900 watts, Equalizer, 5 disc DVD player, DVD-A Player, 36 inch Flat screen /w HDTV, minidisc player. All done with optical audio and Svideo video. *drooool*

DVD audio...but only if the DVD player doesn't support that format.

Ha! I've chose to complete the project because my suspicion about the audio output is correct. I tested that theory it today.

basicly all i have to do is amplify the audio output from any divice which have a/v output plugs.

I t6hought I might have to decode it or something.
but my system will be more than amplify it.
