I suggest you get a soundcard
onboard sound is never as good as from a soundcard

1.8GHz should do just fine for about a year - then I'll get 2.53 GHz for half the price

I need to get more RAM though asap

MY computer orignally came with 6 channel onboard and I was blown away by it. Sounded just as good my brother's soundbalster Live! I would've been happy cept I needed some more connections, so I got the SB Audigy Platinum. The only thing that I absolutely can't live without now is the crossover controls the audigy has. All the bass is going to the sub now, the speakers sound much cleaner.

Onboard is perfectly fine for audio in my opinion, unless you want to record music. If you do recording, this M-Audio card is better than the Audigy and plays just as nice for the same price

i jus found out 2day that RDRAM is supposed 2 b the best.
    not sur y.
    here:
    building a computer

also that u should get the motherboard first, then find out wich type of ram it supports the best.

the problem with RD RAM is that it's a bit experimental and unsuccessful and Intel is thinking of getting rid of it - that means that you'll have problems later when you'll want to upgrade your RAM - there might not be any left in the shops.

    I'd advice DDR

So i got mine yesterday and am building it as we speak. Bleh i hate building comps but i guess it's worth the effort.

Actually it's going to be a busy week. Old computer will act as a server (installing FreeBSD) then i have to migrate my chatserver to the server. Install windows on the new box, adjust my NAT table. Transfer the services database to freebsd. And bring up the chatserver (which will work in one try hopefully)
