Hey :L

I installed Windows 7 along side Ubuntu, but I'd like to move some space from the ubuntu partition to the Windows 7 one. Now the question is how? Can I just shrink the space with the gparted live cd and redistribute it to Ubuntu? Or am I stuck ?

I'm ubuntu illiterate...Is there a partition program for it? If so, just adjust the linux partition smaller, leaving the balance as unpartitioned....then go to win7 and add the unpartitioned space to the win7 partition.

Hang on, which way around do you want to do this? Do you want to shrink the Windows partition and give the space to Ubuntu or the other way around? In either case, I think GParted can resize Linux (ext*) partitions (though I don't know how flexible it is, I've never used it) but not the Windows (NTFS) ones. Windows Vista and 7 (though not XP) include a partition manager utility (somewhere under Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools) which has some ability to resize NTFS partitions.

Basically, try to use the Windows partition manager to resize the Windows partition and GParted to resize the Linux ones.

(And obviously the usual disclaimer about backing up any valuable data on the harddisk whose partition layout you're about to mess around with applies.)
