I read that the disease is caused by something which is toxic to neurons. Since that is the case can't a treatment be done where neurons are constantly injected into the person with the disease? Sure, those neurons would eventually die but that's why I said treatment not cure.
Injected. Ejecting neurons is what I do; sometimes at velocity. Regenerating neurons is not currently doable. http://scienceblogs.com/notrocketsc...reveals_unexpected_link_between_alzheimer.php
correction made thanks. But the body makes them right? So why can't we just take some from someone who doesn't have the disease?
Do you really think injecting neurons into somebodies noggin is going to work. Those loose neurons will just assimilate properly into the brain. Maybe we could expand this type of treatment, if someone has lung cancer we can just inject them with lung cells. Heart attack no prob inject heart cells! Old age - inject cells baby Want to be a dophin - inject dolphin cells.
Not very much after 2 years old. Maybe if you injected the brain with stem cells, and even then, probably not.
You would have to hope that the transplant "takes" to begin with. With neurons, everything depends on their connections to nearby cells. And then there's the problem of rejection. Your body rejects foreign tissue. Even with immunosupressing drugs, your immune system would slowly be attacking your brain.
One posed method of dealing with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's (to name a few) is Mnemonics. This mean's merging the human brain through dopplers or implants as a medium to an external mainframe. If done early enough the symbiotic relationship could allow for memory to either be shared between human and mainframe or stored wholly in the mainframe but still be capable of being accessed by the human mind. The concept is that degeneration of brain functions in due to biological impairment, damage or toxicity could have the mainframe replace certain low-level cognitive functions like long-term memory. It could even be posed that eventual replication and/or replacement of higher functions could be done through this system, however it would likely suggest that symbiosis should be achieved at the earliest possible point to gain this "redundancy schema".
