Here's an idea I'd like other people's opinion on: Instead of moving the Olympics from one country to another and building massive infrastructure at each location, why not pick permanent summer and winter locations and grant the locations extraterritoriality under the auspices of the UN. Then, instead of only a few rich nations being able to host the Olympics, most nations could since the only cost would be maintenance and upgrades. The host nation would still receive the revenues. The locations would have to include accommodation for tourists as well as for athletes.
Why not have all nations put into a fund so that any nation could draw from that fund and be able to host the Olympics there. There are about 200 countries and if they could figure a way for everyone to put in the amount they could afford it would defray the over all costs to any nation holding it. Then say a percentage of the profits were to be put back into the fund by the country holding the event. I'd think that would be better.
and the best part of your idea it is so perfectly in line with the purpose of the Olympics. now only if we could do away with the corruption and criminal cheating.
