I love #4 and I'd try #3 in a heartbeat, #1 not on your life!

I'm sure #1 isn't all that bad...But, it just looks too much like a worm sandwich...Would have to eat it in a dark room.

i don't like sandwiches usually. i find it gross for some reason, unless it's like a jam sandwich that's petite and the edges are cut off. the bread has to remain pretty dry and not get soggy at all.

i can eat bread or rolls separately though. maybe pita or really dry crusty bread.

    i don't like bread much.

There are two missing from that list

    1. Frankie: Tibbs Frankie, at Shivaji Park, Dadar, Mumbai, is the best chicken frankie ever!

The frankie is a local fast food in Mumbai, consisting of a soft white pan fried bread which is coated with egg and spices and filled with vegetable, chicken or mutton in a tangy, hot and spicy sauce.

    2. Vada Pav: This is also a local fast food which is rumored to have been invented outside Dadar station by a local entrepreneur. Vada pav is a Mumbai staple and consists of a soft and spicy fried potato vada fitted inside a Bombay pav. You can add various chutneys to make it sweet or spicy according to your taste. Presently it has been taken up by innovators who sell healthy versions of it [baked, with wholemeal bread, brown bread, multigrain etc]. All versions of it are vegetarian.

I like the original greasy version

I love these things...I probably have 3-4 a month...There's a cuban restaurant, right down the road from me..

Amazing how good some ham, cheese, and pickle can taste.

Might just grab one for lunch..

i would say it's kind of a gourmet sandwich without the price.

it uses uses good contrast in flavor/texture well

What kind of meat is that?...Looks good, but hard to tell.

Also, is there a name for this sandwich?

I'd like to see if they serve this at the place I go to.

it's called banh mi. it has a kind of pate or liver along with some type of vietnamese pork bologna, salami etc. then there is a sweet vinegared slaw, marinated cucumber and fresh cilantro.

you can find what's in the recipe online.

Cool, thanks... I'm going to look that up...

I'll see if they have it the next time I go for lunch..Will try that instead of the usual pho that I get...Who am I kidding, I'll probably just get both.

Your sandwich reminded me of the Middle Eastern sandwiches.

There are two generic ones, a falafel sandwich which has fried chickpea fritters alongwith assorted vegetables and tahini sauce stuffed in half a khubz [pita bread]

The other is shawarma [aka doner kebob], which is shaved meat slices topped with a yoghurt sauce wrapped in a soft taco like bread

Both the sandwiches are to die for!

just to let you know, not all places will serve it exactly how it's suppose to be or the best. some places is amazingly awesome and others not as much. i've had one at a true vietnamese deli where they prepare it fresh on spot vs vietnamese restaurant.

but all of them will make it with the basics so you get the general idea. i've never ate one that i disliked.

BTW SAM..I've had many of both of those sandwiches..

I figure I had one or the other, pretty much every day of high school.

We had a place right across the street from the school...Everyone went there.. Both were fantastic.. Been years since I've had either though..

I've had those sandwiches in places as varied as Saudi, Kuwait, US, London [near Leicester Square] and Mumbai. One of the best shawarmas I had was in a little Greek place in Indiana [they call them gyros]. No two places have exactly the same recipe, but they all taste damn good!

I agree, if you were to go to 100 different places, you would have 100 different recipes...

I've had both in many places as well... And yeah, I've never had a bad experience yet.

Mostly here in America, but abroad as well..

i might be wrong about the sandwich, there might be different recipes of types of sandwiches. the classic vietnamese one that's on the picture has the one with pate or pork liver pate in it along with the additional deli meat/veges. so make sure you ask for that.
