Yep. I'm happy to be here.

Happy Thanksgiving to the US, belatedly to Canada, and to whomever has such a day or respects such a day.

If you are able to read this, then it surely is good to be alive. That's a lot to be thankful for.

    Per your request, SAM:

What am I thankful for (and to no particular individual):
    • My father and [step]mother, for raising me and--as parents often do--bailing me out of a heap of shit I created for myself slightly over a decade ago. I'm a better person for their investment and I hope they are proud.
    • My brothers and sisters. I can't stand any of them, except my little brother, who I miss dearly and who I'm proud of for his service to his country. He's a commissioned officer in the AF now and he's doing more important things than I ever will.
    • My boyfriend, for being just an all around good guy, for passionately studying medicine all frickin' day long, every day, day in and day out (so that ONE day, I may retire in ease!) and for putting up with my never-ending witty remarks, quips, lack of ability to filter what I say, for HIS habit of laughing at even the most serious situations (like, funerals), and for tolerating my annoying cleanliness obsession; at times I drag him into my little world of orderliness and he chuckles through it and takes it in stride. He's dedicated and intelligent and even if we were only friends, it would still be a worthwhile relationship.
    • My close friends: Emily, Todd, Derrick, Sarah, Jacquie, Bryan, and Heather. They are good people and we have an endless good time when we are together.
    • The company I work for: Despite our [recent] differences, I continue working for one of the few "good" corporations out there. They pay well, they treat their people well and when shit happens, they take care of their own.
    • My country and people: For--ever so slowly--moving in the correct direction and for the freedoms I have today and the life I lead. To paraphrase another member of this forum, in terms of the luck of the draw as to where and when I get to live, I won the lottery and am forever thankful for my fortunate fate, the seemingly impossible serendipity that led to my life on earth.

Happy Thanksgiving, Sciforumers, wherever you are.

    It's good to be alive.

I can't wait to eat me some deep-fried turkey...and pass out during the Lions game. Then refreshed after a nice nap..watch my Cowboys win their 3rd in a row. (wishful thinking)

I'm definitively wearing my loosest fitting jeans.

    We The First People

I'm proud to belong to one of the original clans

Whose Ancestors occupied all of these lands

Before we were "found" by some wandering seaman

Who knew just where he was and we became "Indian"

Talk to me of our victories, and I will listen

Tell me about our history, a tear will glisten

Stories of how life use to be, bring a rueful smile

Drums and flutes will find me dreaming all the while

In order to "save" us, they killed us

    Our peaceful cultures were "dangerous"

And they thought they could just ravage us

But by fighting back, we became “savages”

Call us lazy indeed - we're not driven by their greed

    To gather "materials" about them

    But my question is

    How did we exist

For hundreds of centuries without them?

Happy thanksgiving. I'm thankful I'm not pro life, or conservative, or Renaissance Man.

Poetic, but not altogether true, especially the part about "peaceful culture", which few if any of the Native Americans were. The myth of the "noble savage" is been exaggerated for the better part of the past few decades--an obvious pendulum swing from the previous decades of being portrayed as vicious savages. The truth is somewhere in between. American Indians are humans, dwelling on a septic planet; no better and no worse than the other people living anywhere else.

Happy Thanksgiving! Once I was in Amerika an "celebrated" it for real. Is it common to put candy in the food?

    Let's face it, the moderators who allowed this thread to be put into "Free Thoughts" rather than into "Politics" on an intelligent, open, international forum are either;

    A. Not to bright, or

    B. So blatantly bias in their western political leanings that they might as well just admit it.
