"The Hand of Providence has been so conspicuous in all this, that he must be worse than an infidel that lacks faith, and more than wicked, that has not gratitude enough to acknowledge his obligations." - George Washington

And go to work tomorrow, all you godless leftists, unless you're hypocrites.

    Never mind. You're hypocrites.

    We've drank the whine
    Witnessed the deity-encumbered turkey
    With it's stuffing disemboweled.

Prayer is a late-comer to mankind's feasting. Like the righteous to the brain pile.

Any idea what year this quote is from, whether he wrote it or it is attributed?

I am thankful that the blind forces of cause and effect have enabled me to live just as every apex predator lives, well fed and comfortable.

Where to begin in such a mumbo-jumbo of distortion and disinformation....

    1. One of the better known apex predators, lions, often eat the young of other males. When they're not killing one another, they're fighting among themselves. Males fight for dominance, often to the death. When preying on zebras, lions get kicked in the jaws and cannot feed any longer with broken jaws. When preying on cape buffalo, lions get gored and die from such wounds.

"Red in tooth and claw" is a fine description but rather opposite of "well fed and comfortable".

    2. TO WHOM are you "thankful"? To the "blind forces"?

Are those the "blind forces" which:

    A. Created all the matter and energy and organization of the visible universe?
    B. Created atoms with one part in 10 to the 17th stuff, and the rest empty space?
    C. Created the human brain, the most complex system known to man?

Are "blind forces" really this awesome? Only the blind would say so.

Yes, apex predators sometimes have a bad time of it, but usually they are living high on the hog. I'm also thankful that I haven't been the victim of some random disease that your alleged God has seen fit to fill the world with. I'm thankful that reason has led to cures for many of those afflictions. I'm thankful that the heathen savages who we stole this country from taught our ancestors how to survive here.

You are really going overboard with the whole "atheist" thing. It's kinda like the rabid hockey fan proselytizing to the people that don't enjoy hockey.

"YOU HAVE TO WATCH THE GAME THIS SATURDAY....OR ELSE!"

You cannot force religion on someone. Remember that.

    You're a little too hard.
I celebrate both Christmas and Santa Niculae, one of the most beautiful moments spent with family.
But I do not believe in Santa Claus.
That means that I am hypocrite?

what does thanksgiving have to do with god or christmas?

what does a tree decorated in your living room and materialistic gifts have to do with christianity?

isn't that a pagan ritual that christians have adopted?

i thought jesus was a homeless wanderer that helped people. i thought he said to give away all your belongings and follow me. he wasn't a proponent of a materialistic life either.

My daughter, who has known me as a vegetarian since she was 5, became a vegetarian earlier this year. Yet she told me she will eat turkey on Thanksgiving "as long as she gives thanksto God for the turkey presented to her". I supported her even though I would never eat flesh- I still applaud her for abstaining from flesh the better part of the year.

Thanksgiving is a fundamental right of Americans. It's the act of getting together and sharing one meal without having to hear everyone's bullshit opinions... it's a chance to all sit together at the same table and give thanks for a good year.

    Here endith the lesson.

Thanksgiving has nothing to do with religion, does it?

It's a celebration that developed from festivals celebrating the harvest.

So, I don't see why the Godless Leftists shouldn't enjoy it along with the bigoted religious Renaissance Men.

Thanksgiving is a secular holiday now.

As someone without religious views, I am thankful for my family and friends. When we sit down to dinner, I make sure to tell them as much.

If nothing else, it's a paid day off for me, and as to RenaissanceMan's pointless comments (a) my work is closed, (b) I'm not a leftist, and (c) we have yet more evidence as to why religious morons should not be permitted to breed.

Or, those with a rational grip on reality and in possession with a higher education.

Which god do you propose we all believe in? Surely you can't subscribe to the notion that they are all right? And if they aren't all right, then atheists are no worse than all those people who believe in some other god, which is fine and dandy as far as I'm concerned. I just think you should come out and admit that you're a wannabe tyrant and a solipsist.
