First off Dimension_Traveller, Welcome to the forum. As a new member here you probably aren't use to the current rules, methods and protocols that we can be called draconian for enforcing.

One of these rules is not to quote entire Articles from a third-party source in their entirety, it's a big no-no mainly because it's mountains of text stored needlessly on the servers here and also because it can actually annoy the actual people that are the sources of the article, after all they've gone to the trouble of publishing a website with the article and they usually expect people to go and read it there.

So we ask that you only quote a paragraph or two of an actual article and just point a link at the articles location if people want to read further. This way we can have our active discussions over here on this forum without upsetting the status quo of those websites which provide the sources of our discussions.

Also we tend to ask that the initial poster to a new thread attempts to set the discussion rather than just posting a quote, for instance saying "I think this is right because it looks right, do you think the same?" etc. It just motivates people to interact rather than having a repository of articles that any spam bot could do.

(I will likely have taken the liberty of stripping your post down to conform.)

As for the actual subject, the human mind is a rather amusing thing to measure. It's like taking a Server room filled full of computers and attempting to identify the computational power of the systems and what functions they perform just by looking at the volume they occupy.

The study of Neurology does attempt to bridge this almost comparable to "divination" problem through active probing. This too becomes problematic as it to the server room analogy would be like comparing the outcome from one server room to fit all server rooms. Not all server rooms will operate the same way, much like not all human brains function exactly the same way.

While indeed all humans have the basic "hardware" requirements, the "software" can develop different on a person by person basis due to genetics and external influences. This is proven from time to time when a person has a severe accident where brain damage occurs and they are still able to function, this is due to the adaptive nature of the brain with it's capacity to rewire around obstructions and redefine areas to process information. (Admittedly retraining is not an overnight process and age can discriminate against it's effectiveness.)

Funnily enough there is a branch of Theoretics in regards to Transhumanism that implies that there might be more to "intelligence" than just the physical perimeters that are currrently applied through standard neurology. I can't go into great detail because of it's "Fringe" nature but Arthur C. Clarke's quote should give you a sufficient premonition.
