Well, the real question is (whatever the definition): Can people help not being enlightened?
If they can't you can't really 'hold it against them' although you'll probably have to take it into account when dealing with them.

    Which is?

And why wouldn't the two exclusive ones in the OP be enough?

    What do you think?

For example, you are by default negatively charged against humanity as a whole. Do you think they can or cannot help being the way they are?

They cannot help the way they are, myself included.
But I don't hold being human against people. But that doesn't mean I have to like humanity or that I don't think that something should be done about our numbers.

I'm not sure about people not being able to help being enlightened.

Is it really involuntary, that people cling to their ignorance like it was their beloved puppy?

That they choose to listen to emotions and not facts, stereotypes and not real people?

Is it involuntary if some rightwing nut argues against abortion because 'she should have kept her legs closed'?

Is it involuntary if you deem someone with two earlobe piercings 'normal' but someone with one labret stud mentally sick and in need of treatment because they have a little piece of metal in their mouth rather than their ear?

Are racism and sexism involuntary? Really?

No, just as you cannot hold it against people if they have low intelligence levels.

    I voted yes.

In fact, unenlightened people should be taken out back and beaten with a stick. Furthermore, all people should be enlightened in all practices.
A lack of knowledge is not an excuse. In fact, it IS the crime. If there's something you do not know- it's the stick for you.

It depends on what your enlightened about. I'm a member of a forum where many of the members believe they are "enlightened" because they believe the moon is a hollow spaceship built by shape-shifting reptilian aliens who control the earth....and those that don't believe are "in the dark" and are sheeple.
