What is going on at the RNC these days? The party of religious values, the party of God, is now sending out porno phone numbers in their mailers. What is going on at the RNC? A few days ago we had the RNC funding a sex club outing. Now they sent out mailers with porno phone numbers?

If you want to shield your kids from this stuff, you might want to keep Republican mailers out of their hands.

    Awesome.

Although, really, Joe, you might be reaching a bit:

"The number in question was a typographical error by a vendor used on this particular mailer — using 1-800 instead of 202," said RNC Communications Director Doug Heye.

    (Smith)

That's plausible. Certainly there is a more arcane criticism to be made that this is what outsourcing brings. And, of course, it isn't an encouraging statement of Republicans' ability to administrate, but, really, you're starting to sound like Drudge, and just because they run this sort of scandalmongering doesn't necessarily mean anyone else needs to.

A nickel's worth of free (and unsolicited) advice that you might consider: I have various threads around this site that are just running thematic compendia. There's "The Menagerie", "The Gay Fray", and most lately it seems "Another Stupid Tea Party Thread" is going to turn into one of them, as well. You may wish to consider something along the lines of a "GOP Fail!" thread, which would have at least a few advantages over the current form:

    • Fewer people asking what's up with your running obsession with GOP scandal.
    • Fewer threads to keep track of.
    • The weight of a long parade of Republican idiocies is greater than a scattering of light and easily forgotten threads.
    • Other people may end up contributing their own GOP clsuterdiddles to the thread.

I understand there's a certain amount of fun in watching the GOP make fools of themselves. But this bit with thread after thread sounding like Drudge or Limbaugh or any number of conservative idiot scandalmongers can have a negative effect to the point that you're the only one laughing. And, of course, I understand the desire to do unto this sleazy lot as they do unto others, but I would also suggest there are better ways to go about it.

Anyway, maybe it's worth thinking about.

Oh, right ... yes, there is audio available via Ben Smith's article, linked above (or below).

Just one big difference, this stuff is true.

The other difference is the guys you referenced, have been bullying and pushing people around for a long time. There is only one way to deal with these bullies is to push back just as hard as they only understand one thing...strength.

Yeah. But is it all worth gloating over?

Yes it is, it is better than letting them sweep it under the rug. They certianly would not allow it if the shoe were on the other foot.

My thoughts on America's political parties. I think the progressives tend to not have the killer instinct needed to push their cause forward. Progressives are high on ethics and fairness to a fault. Republicans/conservatives have no such qualms. For them, winning is all that matters no matter what the it takes and that usually means sacraficing any integrity they may have had.

I would like to see Progressives have a little more fire in their bellies and more of a drive to win while keeping their moral compass. For the Republicans/conservatives, I would like to see morals in action and a little less winning at all costs. That means less deception, less gamesmanship, more substance and more focus on the needs of the country rather than personal power and wealth at the expense of the public and the nation.

    Oh, for fuck's sake

Ah, yes, the lament of the frustrated conservative: Waah! You're not being fair! You should be complaining about Democrats just as much as you do Republicans, so I don't have to! Waah!

Part of the problem is that, on balance, Republican fuckups and misdeeds are more grave than those of Democrats.

Think of it this way: Most Americans believe politicians are corrupt. The Republicans depend on this belief in order to excuse themselves.

There is a difference between being a bunch of incompetent boobs, like the Democrats, and calculating fraud like the Republicans. Lee Atwater, Karl Rove ... these are conservatives.

Desi, there are plenty of things to complain about in terms of Joe's pseudo-Drudge campaign against the GOP. That he isn't picking on the Democrats enough to satisfy you just isn't one that is worth wasting your time on.

Democratic Catholic leader arrested on prostitution-related charges

    Dublin, Ohio, Jan 14, 2009 / 09:22 pm (CNA).-

The former director of the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives for the governor of Ohio was arrested Wednesday for his involvement in an online prostitution ring. Eric McFadden, who has also formerly served as the president of the organization Catholics for Faithful Citizenship and spokesperson for Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, will face seven prostitution-related charges tomorrow in court--------------

McFadden’s faith outreach has not been limited to the Ohio governor’s office. In 2004, McFadden worked for Catholics for Kerry and in 2005, served as the president for the organization, Catholics for Faithful Citizenship. In 2006, he was a spokesperson for Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good, and more recently, he was Hillary Clinton’s lead Catholic outreach organizer as the State Faith & Values Outreach Director during the race for the Democratic presidential nomination. ---------------

Police also believe that McFadden is a man they have been tracking who posts under the name “Toby.” Authorities have been searching for him over the past two months after busting a prostitution ring on Craigslist.

McFadden used complex encoded postings on Craigslist that would look like useless or corrupted data, in which he would embed the information of the woman available, the type of sex interaction she would be willing to perform and the place to meet her. Paradoxically, McFadden's code name in his transactions was "mcfaddencatholic."

And again, this is not about Democrats as much as you would wish it to be. It is instead about the hypocrisy in America's party of God, the Republican Party. Democrats are not and have not made the representation that they are the endorsed party of God. Probably in no small part to the fact that major Christian groups have endorsed the Republican Party as the party of God. Does the Moral Majority (Jerry Falwell, etc), ring any bells for you?
