You can move into those settlements because you're an atheist with a mother who is probably also an atheist but has a mother who is a Jew, even if no one for 20 generations in your family was born there.

Palestinians born in the village that settlement is replacing cannot. Because they don't share your non-Jewish Jewishness. Thats racism.

At present, ownership of those sites is disputed and admittedly unfair to the Palestinians, but we are talking about some future hypothetical peace agreement where the national borders are agreed and settled.

 

Who cares about ownership of sites? There is present ongoing vicious violent racism.

 

This is a compromise worth making

Perhaps some people are forgetting that there is a genetic component to Judaism:

They do not eat pork, they practise male circumcision, they ritually slaughter their animals, some of their men wear skull caps and they put the Star of David on their gravestones.

Their oral traditions claim that their ancestors were Jews who fled the Holy Land about 2,500 years ago.

It may sound like another myth of a lost tribe of Israel, but British scientists have carried out DNA tests which have confirmed their Semitic origin.

These tests back up the group's belief that a group of perhaps seven men married African women and settled on the continent. The Lemba, who number perhaps 80,000, live in central Zimbabwe and the north of South Africa ....

They wear skull caps, practise circumcision, which is not a tradition for most Zimbabweans, avoid eating pork and food with animal blood, and have 12 tribes.

They slaughter animals in the same way as Jewish people, and they put the Jewish Star of David on their tombstones.

Members of the priestly clan of the Lemba, known as the Buba, were even discovered to have a genetic element also found among the Jewish priestly line.

However, it's fair enough also to use the word "bigotry". Judeosupremacism is part religious bigotry, part racism, at least. I would suggest this is a rhetorical compromise worth making. People are going to continue to try to divorce Judaism and racism as long as it gives them some pathetic backoor escape from recognizing Judeosupremacist ideology among Israelis. Just like they'll try to pretend you're aiming to hang every Jew by it. Anything to avoid looking this particular spectre in the face.

What % of what genetic component makes anyone Jewish? 1%? The One Drop Rule? Its an artificial construct like all racism.

 

Well...I'd love to live in Saudi Arabia...or become a permanent resident of Japan...or become parliament in Iran. Unfortunately the Saudi's don't accept people of the Jewish race, Japanese only accept those of the Japanese race and Iran has boycotted Jews from government positions.

Life's tough, why complain about one problem every day and ignore the rest?

 

My point is that if and when the border issue is resolved, Israelis will live in Israel and Palestinians will live in Palestine.

Israel should never be recognized as jewish. No country should ever be recognized as not for all of its citizens which is exactly what such a thing is doing.

 

Because it's for all practical purposes a war. Israel is trying to claim as much land as possible so that their enemies will be demoralized and defeated.

The genetic prerequisite

Well and fine, but does it change the fact that there is a genetic prerequisite for being part of the club? Unlike Islam and Christianity, there are specific restrictions on how someone like, say, me, could become "Jewish". It's not simply a matter of asking Moses into my heart, or seeking to understand the wisdom of the prophets.

 

tiassa i have to agree with Sam, if you continuesly interbreed in one faith then it will apear you have a genetic simalarity but i would argue its still a culture not a race. For instance, catholics until recently ONLY married catholics (for the most part), does this make them a race? well look at another situation, nurses and doctors who tend to mate within that area because of shift work. further more lots of children follow there parents in career. There for you could argue that HCW are a race because they interbreed with other HCWs and there children do. That is a rediculas position though, just like the position positions which would say any religious group is a race. Now that doesnt mean that a race cant have a religious atachment (say the aborigionals) but its not there membership of the religion which makes them aborigional.

 

actually that should be the future of jeurusliam. An independent city state with no atachment to either israil OR palistine.
