Britain used to send its criminals to Australia. Should the US do something similar with its criminal element? Should it be an option? I'm reminded of those old movies with Snake Blitzkin in them, Escape from LA.
Where do you propose to send the prisoners to exactly? Who then will pay for their incarceration and upkeep? I really don't think you have thought about this very hard or you would see the many problems with it.
Well, the idea of a prison colony is that we don't give them any upkeep. We just pay guards to watch the walls, and if they go hungry or die in there, then too bad for them.
There isn't a lot of free real estate available. Other countries will object, I would guess. Moon colonies?
So if a person were to steal a bicycle that cost 120.00 and he is sent to prison for theft should he die for his theft? You really should think more about this proposal because the upkeep of the guards alone would be in the millions of dollars .
LOL, Blitzken!? Are you thinking of Santa's reindeer? Its Snake Plisskin Ever play the Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid games? He's referenced there as well.
I stand corrected. Thanks for clearing that up. I figure since the financial system caused the mess we are in we could make the location Manhattan.
I support deporting ALL criminals and their families back to their country of origin. We have enough crap here.
If hell really exists under the ground, we could just tunnel into it, and deposit them there. No need to wait for Hell to come to you.
Why their families too? They didn't do anything. My family has lived in the US for over 6 generations (most certainly more) with an unknown country of origin where would I be sent if I were to commit a crime?
Hmm according to some historical romance I once read it was Georgia which was set aside as a penal colony for British debtors. Is that false?
AFAIK, pretty much all of the British colonies in North America were used at least to some extent as penal colonies during the colonial period. American history classes don't tend to mention this, instead playing up Australia's status as penal colony (and vice-versa, or so I'm told).
and what part of America was used as a penal colony? I know indentured servants were sent over. They worked for so many years and they got their freedom. But what part was a penal colony? I guess I have a different idea of a penal colony
