Is there anyone that plays Unreal Tournament? or UT2? if so are you in a clan? what server do you play on?

Oh wow oh wow, oh my. A female gamer :) No, sorry, I don't play UT. I play the Day of Defeat MOD for Half Life (it is a huge overthrow mod, while not like it, they modified the game to the same extent, if not more than Counter Strike). It is by far the best first person shooter I've ever played (and one of the best games), it stole the rank from SWAT 3.

there is one problem with that clan. Now there are games which are more enjoyable to play on - net. Soon there will be UT2 not talking about Soldier of Fortune2 which is a definite buy for me as soon as I upgrade my system.

He is me good buddy I known for years (an inactive Marine in Texas). He and I play DoD all the time. We don't have anyone else to play with (partly because there are alot of slim bag personalities on DoD online, and cheaters - though HLGaurd version 1.004 is working pretty good - you can permanently ban cheaters from your server via their won.net ID).

Say Agent, hang on a minute and I will get you some DoD screen shots.

Omaha Beach at Normandy as envisioned by the DoD team. This Dog1 map is not available in 2.1 - but you can get it from me from version 2.0 The Overlord map (another map very similar) is still on however.

I had to trim the compression quality some because of Sciforums 100KB size limit on files (though I guess since I am the moderator of this board maybe I could get Porfiry to temporarily up it 50KB)

I think you may misunderstand, or more likely, I've not been clear enough.
I also have UT on PC CDROM but with a dial up connection I'd get my ass kicked by all those on broadband.

Until my cable provider brings broadband to my area theres not a lot I can do.

Actually, you can limit the bandwidth and maximum rate on HL to make it quite tolerable for dial up players. Most public servers are won.net are dedicated servers so they are very fast. And actually, if you can play direct TCP/IP on UT, it might be ok if you are playing with someone you know.

THe goss is you can play UT on dial up, its fine, it only lags a little..... give it a berl!

and on the dial up: i used to use Dialup to play UT. lag in-game wasnt that bad, but downloading all the custom maps is a pain in the arse. so just connect to a server, go watch the 4 hour remake of dune, and come back to play!

And BTW, Starcraft sucks now.. everyone just plays Terran and walls in on lost temple BGH.. thats lame.

I'm downloading tactical ops mod right now. Hope it is worth the wait.

I like the engine on it's own too. Like Clive Barker's Undying. That shows of it's possiblilities.

Yep, alot of things used a modified UT engine. One of the things I hate most about it is its decals look god awful (like blood splats on the groud). The colors bleed like crazy and they look fuzzy as hell.

Plus you can get the "square" effect if your brightness/contrast/gamma turned up even slightly.

The engine I love most is Quake 2's (which I guess has moved on to Q3, though I've never played any version of that game). Kingpin was based on that.

Though I don't like the save game system, the gameplay engine itself is great and rock solid. It is hard to release a map with texture leaks, and the animations are very smooth.

No ugly crap either (decals and skins look great).

I played Quake 2 demo. It is a good engine. The Quake 3 engine feels absolutely rock solid. Look at that! It's real stone! :-)

The blood in UT? Never noticed anything wrong about it. The tactical ops mod lets you bleed all the time when hit. I think the bloodstains are well done.

Btw, the mod is worth the 202 mb download. It makes the game more realistic. Some people hate the candycolors of UT.

You know what someone should make? A freeze mod for UT :-)

I think the Quake 3 engine enviroments look better than the UT envroments, but i've alwase felt that the quake models were unclean. they look horible without anti-aliasing on.

I want to get my hands on a copy. It looks very original. Is it possible to play against bots? If so, are they any good?

You can play against bots, but its rather dull. they randomly make amasingly accurate shots, and sometimes dont even fire back when they are beeing attacked. the only way to realy play is online.

and there are single player missions.. but they are VeRY short.
If you cant play this game online or through a lan with at least 4 people, dont bother buying it.

I can play it 24 hours a day on a cable modem :)

That's not the problem. But with UT I noticed that on every server there is someone so good that after a while it gets boring. I like my bots. :)

Also depending on time of day and server location, there can be a lot of lag, which screws around with your aiming accuracy. Single or bot play is nice and smooth. To bad for the sucky AI.

I didn't think a bot could ever understand how to make vehicles and use them in a team with someone else on a huge map. I can't believe they can handle that.

Are the servers crowded? Are there enough players still there to form massive armies with? Cause I think that's the power of the game.

Hey, I play UT... and I play Ondoher's Redeemer Arena

It's fun, and you start with 999 redeemers and everything goes BOOM! and there are campers and stuff and newbies who don't know which team to shoot (blue shoots blue, red shoots red, and everyone gets angry and yell and then someone says "just play" and then they play) but it's fun anyway! Oh, and I play as .
(Yes, my name space is blank. I don't have a name, so people refer to me as blank, or... spacebar, as one person called me *sniff* i'm not a spacebar! Spacebars show up as underscores, but I don't even have an underscore. I'm special YAY!) so if you dcecide to play, i'm only on there maybe once every couple days but there are some other people on there and its fun. Oh, and the server has a clan, it's ]bistro[ and i'd be in the clan, but since I don't have a name, it woudn't work, because my name would be ]bistro[ and it would look funny, and then my name wouldn't be blank anymore. Well, yeah... that's the server I play on. So... I guess i'll stop talking now. Btw.. ><}}}*> it's a fishy, yep! I like fish.

And I hold true to being a libra (well... the basic princible of it, at least) in the sense that I truly believe, and have seen, that all things have a balance! (Although some fish are more equal than others)

And also... as an example of balance...
If you cut a fish from dorsal to belly, along its entire body.. it's a mirror image! Most things hold true to this as well.. like salmon. And sharks... and carp... and fish.
