irc?
irc is a chat client.

IRC has a file transfer protocol, and there are dedicated file sharing channels most of which have have automated bots that serve files.

IRC is the cradle of the warez and music sharing scenes. It was the dominant medium back in '97 before anyone had written a dedicated file sharing client.

i was being partly sarcastic when i said that, due to my hatred of irc, there is no way that i would be inclined to use it. Its a very security flawed program that is a danger to my computer.

yeh, i agree. However, you dont have much of a choice with what OS you use. The way i see it is: Windows or Linux. Linux doesnt appeal to me as i feel it has more developing needed. i use Xp and am happy just now with its performance.

the only real alternative to Kazaa network is DC++ !

Kazaa Lite (http://www.kazaalite.nl/) : kazaa without spam or spyware!

When we say Kazaa, we actually mean Lite. Normal kazaa is for the ugly and the stupid.

hehehhe

DC++ or Direct Connect is a file sharing program. Not all hubs require 30 gigs. It depends on what you want and what hub you wish to visit. Movie hubs usually require more share as there must be more gigs to have enough to have a choice of movies to pick from. Many hubs require 5 gigs or less. They also have hubs that share games, anime, e-books, and music of various themes. There are approximately 3100 to 3200 different hubs, not counting private hubs.

dc++ is a hack of the original program
koala dc is another

advantages are multiple hub connections

i had a little app that let me fake my share size but am not sure where it is on the web

I tried edonkey2000 this week, my download speed averages at about 3k/s and I'm on ADSL. I went back to Kazaa.

Is E-Donkey worth using?

Stryder
02-14-03, 09:25 AM
It can be, but I think overnet was better. E-donkey doesn't use peer-to-peer, it uses hub servers which can be a pain in the ascii to log onto. Overnet contained a peer-to-peer method based on E-donkey's system.

The main advantage over Kazaa that E-donkey has, is the ability from a few websites to pickup the correct links for finding the file.
And there is a visual representation of how files are Compiled at your system from the bits of files that are "Okay".

(Sometimes it's possible to suffer from CRC errors on Kazaa, mostly down to a system being used while a download is occuring and the RAM of the system being "Mismanaged")

I think dc++ is the best

I used donkey for some few days and I think that it sux

Many of the DC++ hubs have scripts written to kick e-donkey users. The reason is the DC++ is not very compatable with e-donkey. You may d/l from someone but they will not be able to d/l from the e-donkey client. That breaks the idea of sharing files so most hubs don't want that client in DC network.

i use kazaa lite for my programs (only full versions can satisfy my needs) for some reason i have ($3,000) Maya 4.5 just chillin on my computer, i guess it's just good to know i have it.

WinMX for my music, but everyone is all jittery about dc++ so i'll try it

ElectricFetus

My uncles got the $8000 Maya animator pirated... I have been asking for 4 months now for a copy he should send it when he gets back from where ever he is (India I think)

dc++ is not that great: You have to connect to servers and find stuff and deal with server rules and restrictions and bull shit, get kick, move or band for not having enough GB of crap or not enough slots open or stealthed ping...

Only if I can't find anything on Kazaa some whino on the only "+30GB sharing min" dc++ server will have it.

I've been using k-lite since I moved in here, but it doesn't work on share reactor.

I've never even heard of overnet.
Will that download the edonley files from sharereactor.com?

I'm going to try out DC++.
Soes it come with spyware and pop ups?
Is there a site where I can get verified media and software with DC++?

(Hey look. 800 posts. I never thought I would make it this far. Thanks to all those who have suppoted me on this long and arduous journey!)

Ooooh...I have that. My friend downloaded it, sent a copy to me. But I've actually never installed it...he says it's very hard to learn to use.
Also, be noted - I read that Maya comes with spyware from Brilliant Digital Entertainment (the same spyware that comes with regular KaZaA Lite!) However you can get rid of brilliant digital entertainment manually or use a program like ad-aware 6 (don't download the personal version, download Ad-Aware 6 Professional + keygen on KaZaA)

You mean kazza media desktop?
I've been trying to get the full version of Maya 4.5, but can't find it.
I've used it, and it's pretty easy.
It really isn't geared for design.
It just lets you create computer animation.
I'm dying to get my hands on Studio Tools.
(It's by the same company that created Maya, but is geared towards industrial design. I saw some pictures of cool Sony gadget designs. It supposedly has the ability to design apparel and shoes as well.)

Kazaa lite is the most accesible. Winmx sucks beyond belief since everything is always "remotely queued". Tried imesh and it flooded my pc with ads and stupid software that won't uninstall. Morpheus...well it's easier to get a job and buy the album with the songs you want or the dvds you want before you find anything on Morpheus. Note: imesh shows the exact search results as Kazaa lite. Too bad though winmx has the best resolutions for movies and rare stuff you can't find anywhere else. I have never heard of DC however, i will have to try that.

Kazaa, WinMX, and just about everything else sucks compared to DC++.

Tristan,

Your a idiot! Yes DC has chat rooms and has all th rare stuff but is no where near as convenient as KazaA or Winmx for that matter. If you want common material without that hassle of server rules and sharing capacity go KazaA… if you can' find it anywhere else then I bet you DC has it.

Actually im quite smart, thank you very much:D :D :D :D

Yes DC has chat rooms
never use them:rolleyes:

rare stuff
I suppose

here near as convenient as KazaA or Winmx for that matter.
Now I know that is not true. I can do a search while connected to 4 hubs that searches over 1000people and probably 10 terabytes(most likely a lot more).

If you want common material without that hassle of server rules and sharing capacity go KazaA…
Common material? I can find any complete album with the exception of tiny bands like Perfume Tree. I have dled over 10 gigs of stuff in 3 weeks. Sharring capacity? Big deal, get like 3 movies and you can join just about any server.

I can get any COMPLETE album that has all the titles in order, the same byte rates, good quality too. Instead of Dling from 10 different people, with choppy crappy songs. Not to mention no one on Kazaa has fast dl speeds. I can go on and on. Even WinMX is better than Kazaa. Kazaa is for newbies that havent learned the good file sharring programs (no offence of course;) )

Simply, DC++ is the bomb. And Yes I have used WinMX, Kazaa, etc.

cool skill what are you smoking, i have Maya 4.5 final and it's way complicated it took me like an hour just to get some texture to a sphere. so now i got a program called Bryce 5, very easy to use

Hey I have compared DC++ to KazaA personally and I know which one is more convenient to me. If you enjoy searching through hubs for something that’s your fetish not mine. I have DSL like speeds and I'm on KazaA so no not everyone on KazaA is a modemer. Also I have never notice any degradation from “chop up” files in fact if you knew how the Internet work you would know that all information transfered over TCPIP is in packet form. http://www.guru3d.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile_double_fingers.gif

Whoa there grasshopper. Calm down.

Also I have never notice any degradation from “chop up” files in fact if you knew how the Internet work you would know that all information transfered over TCPIP is in packet form.

Thats not what I was refering to. Generally, the people that use kazaa have shitty files to begin with from shitty encoding. Its not the internet that makes them horrible. Its the computer illiterate people who encode music/movies.

Like I said, I can dl an entire album that has all been encoded in the same byte rate from a reliable source. But even then, sometimes im let down. Rarely though.

Grasshopper, no need for fingers there buddddddY.

Excuse me? All people on KazaA have shitty files? When was it that P2P programs were like separate countries with different cultures? I mean I’m sure there are bad encoders out there but they’re not limited to people that use KazaA! I pulled off a lot of bad videos from DC++ should I blame it on the program, the hubs I used, the person that was sharing the file or the encoder?
