Now, i've probably violated the forum rules for being this stupid, but i can't seem to find how on earth you access these little newsboards, chatrooms etc with titles such as alt.binaries or alt.barney.the.dinosaur.must.die and things of the like.

If anyone could point me in the direction of a comprehensive guide (or add one as a sticky, though i doubt there is anyone else that actually needs to know apart from me), or just tell me how here, i would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance

It's called Usenet or even newsgroups. The simplest method of Access is to actually use google, however if you want a proper access you'll need to setup a newsgroup client to connect to a newsgroup server.

This can be a bit of a problem since some of them tend to require subscriptions, however most ISP's will allow access for their users to their newsgroup server along with pop/imap mail.

I'd suggesting hunting information on google about your isp and newsgroups to see if thats apart of your deal.

Thanks very much Stryder, i'll give that a go. Google eh? I suppose it has to be useful for something other than spam. I actually managed to find quite a nice little list of sites posted by Nanok back in 2002 in the forums, i'll give both a little tryout.

    Cheers, Solda

I used to post there but not in the last 3-4 years. Now there are specialized private forums with moderators (like this) and those are much better than the original Usenet.
Whatever is your fancy you can find a Forum for it. Usenet is for spammers and last time i checked even traffic was dying...

indeed make sure you construct a email address that deals with spammers.

    usual sort of method:
    me@[nospam]address.com

The problem however is most spammers farm these emails and know the [nospam] bit needs to be removed. However the sort of things the spammers can't handle is sub-domains and even extra @/.'s in the email address:

    me@@address.com
    me.stryder@the.address.com

Obviously that would mess up a farming bot.
